scotty doesnt know

[ current selection | lustra – dont tell scotty ]
[ feelin’ | hmm… ]

absolutely stupid flash music video by lustra from the upcoming movie eurotrip. so why am i posting a stupid video from the equally stupid eurotrip (which i will most likely pay to watch)? b/c it has shots of kristin kreuk all over the fucking place. woot! i was just thinking the other day that she needed to get out of her glossy happy super-nice persona from smallville. so in eurotrip, shes the slutty ex-girlfriend of scotty…woo! and oh yea, the tracks pretty catchy too.

ghost in the shell: innocence
in other decidedly less stupid cinematic news, aicn posted a link to a super-sized trailer to the forthcoming ghost in the shell: innocence movie, but it dont work, yo. so in any event, i strolled over to the official website anyway and theres three trailers up, all of which are absolutely gorgeous. none of them is the trailer that was reported on aicn (that one was supposedly 70 megs), but theyre coo nonetheless…

jersey movies yo

the trailer for kevin smiths new movie jersey girl is out. so what does it take to either make or break such a film? after a groundbreaking masterpiece like gigli (pronounced “suck“) most would be wary of any kind of affleck/j.lo voltron-merge. so with the upcoming jersey girl, one cant help but worry a little. lets weigh the statistics…

things that suck about jersey girl
– ben affleck and j.lo (even tho the taint is just brief)
– ok…thats really it…

things that rock about jersey girl
– new jersey (word!)
– george carlin
– kevin smith
– liv tyler
– shit, i guess affleck in the trailer…
im not the biggest fan of affleck. in fact, i think as an actor, he has about as much acting talent as dirty underwear. but i have to admit that he seemed in form in the trailer. maybe its the kevin smith factor. liv tyler is always hot…and that little girl is even cute. so ill prolly give the movie a chance…with j.lo’s scenes hopefully kept as super-minimal as possible. “hi…my ass is big!” and the next scene she dies. or something to that affect…

garden state
while we’re on the subject of jersey movies, i thought id also mention the movie garden state. its currently making its way thru the sundance film festival, and aicn had a brief report and a review about it…comparing it to the graduate and harold and maude. the movie centers around a small-time actor, andrew, who returns to new jersey for his mothers funeral and meets a compulsive liar named samantha. its written, directed, and stars zach braff of the rockin’ show scrubs, as well as other notables like ian holm and natalie portman. yum. natalie portman btw…not ian holms…

big movie news b/c theres nothing else day

[ current selection | u2 – the fly ]
[ feelin’ | yay! ]

*yawn* snow. woo. so this particular thursday, aicn just posted a butt-load of new stuff. first up is a coo new trailer for the upcoming will ferrell movie anchorman: the legend of ron burgundy. i used to hate will ferrell in the past…but then i realized it wasnt him i hated. it was actually his many pairings with chris kattan, who was the one i really hated. so since then, chris kattan has gone onto the likes of corky romano, while will ferrell has done zoolander (mugatu!!!) and elf, and has earned redemption. anyhoo, anchorman looks pretty coo. ah…the crazy 70s. not that i know anything about the 70s…its kind of blurry. and i was also in another country at the time. *shrug*

> anchorman: the legend of ron burgundy

star wars
next up are rumours concerning the star wars franchise. the final eps3 will be released this year…ending a craptacular trilogy that shat on the collective childhood memories of anyone who grew up in the 70s or 80s. word has it now however, that rumors of eps79 (supposedly titled lucas gains another 10 chins) have been floating around the internet. peter mayhew, who played (and actually looks like) chewbacca, reportedly stated that he was signed for an extra 3 episodes after eps3. whether hes talking out of his hairy ass or not, we’ll have to wait and see. to lend weight to the rumors however is another report that pacific title, an optical effects company that worked on eps2 and 3, had just signed new contracts well into 2012…which is seemingly enough time to make another trilogy. hmm. we’ll see, yo.

trailers up the wazoo
and then theres just a ridiculous amount of new trailers posted all over the place. some have already had teasers and first trailers released, some are brand-spanking new. heres a quick rundown.

> the stepford wives > looks like i, robot meets *wallpaper. i think its about robotic versions of nicole kidman as the perfect wife for rich people? ok…word.
> spartan > val kilmer tracks down a kidnapped presidents daughter. i think. except theres alot of conspiracy and betrayal. crazy shit, yo. im not that big a fan of crime/drama, so you can make the call…
> hidalgo > forget the whole “unbelievable true story” poop…b/c yea, its unbelievable, and its all poop. ah well, the story still looks interesting tho. its like aragorn meets cannonball run meets indiana jones.
> scooby-doo 2 > theres a 2? bugger that. scooby-doo and garfield are ass-buddies and can both eat shit.
> the battle of algiers > uber-serious movie from the 60s. “the most emotionally powerful revolutionary epic since eisensteins potemkin!!!” banned in france! screened by the pentagon!! holy fucking shit!!! call me indifferent, but im not really interested in self-important political movies. *yawn*
> comic book: the movie > mark “skywalker” hammills first movie…actually looks kinda funny! i think tho youd have to be even remotedly interested in comics and the comic world to enjoy…or even appreciate the movie.
> tokyo godfathers > and lastly…i missed a review of this anime movie earlier. oops. its the new movie by satoshi kon, the director of perfect blue and the recent millenium actress about 3 homeless people in tokyo who find a baby and try to track down the parents. the animation looks very coo (as madhouse always does), and kons movies always make me ball. *sniff*

hellboy report

[ current selection | esthero – superheroes ]
[ feelin’ | …excited ]

woo…reading this article is getting me more excited for the upcoming hellboy movie. aicn had a report today about a post viewing of the current cut of guillermo del toros hellboy. they describe some of the fight scenes from the movie, the villains rasputin and kroenen, as well as just how much ron perlman kicks ass as hellboy. the article also describes how del toro gives the characters subtle nuances that go a long way towards their character development…like hellboys crush on the pyro liz, and especially the way he methodically files down his growing horns so he can look “normal.” very coo. theres so far not many movies im looking forward to in 2004. sky captain, maybe star wars ep3, harry potter, and now definitely hellboy. check out the field report yo.

101 rotk observations

[ current selection | esthero – that girl ]
[ feelin’ | toasty ]

every year since the first fellowship of the ring was released, ign gathers together a coo collection of viewer observations. small details, trivia, plot differences, gripes, etc…definitely coo stuff that people picked up on that others may or may not have overlooked. a few of the observations are pretty bitchy, considering they come from the hardcore i-eat-breathe-and-shit-tolkien…but hey, what are you gonna do?

punk’d

ok…i have no idea how to segue this in, but it just has to be posted. first…the primer. a few weeks (months?) ago, there was a report about ashton kutcher getting fired from cameron crowes new movie production elizabethtown. crowe allegedly said that ashton sucked and booted him for lack of talent. and btw…ashton is also the host for the mtv show punk’d, which is basically candid camera+celebrities. just an fyi. forward to today, where theres a script review of elizabethtown on aint it cool…and it had this little quip.

Apparently due to him sucking, Ashton Kutcher has been booted from this gig. Cameron apparently fired him, then was like “You’ve just been PUNK’D”, and Ashton started to come back, and CC said “No, seriously, you suck, get off my set.”

if the quotes word-for-word for real (or maybe even more expletives used…), crowes you-rock-o-meter just went up a couple of notches…

the perfect score

current selection | bill withers – lovely day
feelin’ | rainy…and cold now

betty pointed out this weekend the upcoming movie the perfect score…about 6 high schoolers attempting to steal the answers to the sat’s. supposedly in the trailer, one of the main characters repeatedly says how he needs to get a perfect score to get into cornell architecture (uh…ok) which you know, is coo and shit. this isnt in the trailer available from the site…so it might just be a theatrical-only trailer…or an earlier teaser. *shrug* if anyone can confirm or deny this…or point out a link to the trailer with the aforementioned ‘plug’, let me know!

on the upside, we’ve discovered tiens long lost brother…roy, the stoner.

the return of the king, part 2

current selection | japanese song track 2(??)
feelin’ | …tired

ah…second viewing of the return of the king today. this time with “premium seating.” woot! but ill get to that in a bit. fish came into the city today after work and we headed up to 71 irving for coffee and chess. we didnt get a chance for chessing christmas eve because we couldnt find any coffee place open after din. our movie showing was at 7pm, so we fig’d that we had enough time for just one game. after an aggressive opening and what i thought was the start of a strong attack on my part, fish strolls down my queens side and checkmates me. what the fuck? ok…my bad. onto game two. in the second game, i pushed up a central pawn pyramid and marched my queens side pawns up to goad his pieces to move. when fish rebuffed my pawns, i continued pushing forward anyway and my queen quickly swept in to get a two pawn advantage. fish still managed to get superior positioning afterwards, but since i had an advantage in pieces, i attacked whatever pieces he had in attacking positions. even after i pressed my b and c column pawns up to get a new queen (two queens total now), fish continued to push his attack. and he nearly got a draw too, but i eventually forced a one move advantage and checkmated his king. wheeeew! i think i wouldve cried if he got a draw after my early advantage and having two damn queens.

we headed up to the 34th st theater around 6:30, but kind of took our time b/c we had reserved premium seats…woo. what this means is that we had specifically reserved seats…the leather ones too…with a big tray next to the seat for snacks and drinks. word. i thought the movie rocked the first time around, but i think i appreciated the movie on a whole new level the second time around. the first time was a sensory overload, so the second time didnt feel so overwhelming. i could take the time to notice the details better…especially during the battle of the pelennor fields. i could also appreciate the music better this time. the music made so many scenes…wow. the ending also didnt seem quite as long as the first time. something shorter wouldve been fine for a one-time viewing…but this extended ending was for longevity. it wasnt an ending for just one movie…it was a fitting end for the entire trilogy as a whole. i have no idea what im going to do until the extended dvd comes out. there had better be enough good movies to adequately distract me from now til next december(?).
