apologies and 15th century robots

[ audio selection | blondie – heart of glass ]

mondays are generally no fun. thats why we have wings and beer, to wash down mondays a bit easier. it was a relatively calm nite at croxleys, with a small crew to nosh and swig foodies and beer with. now im home and all i need to do is get to those damn emails…and maybe log into my gmail account. hi people, did you know i check gmail like once a week? in case you were wondering why i was being a dick and hadnt responded after you sent your mp3s. im good like that.

SORRY YO
ill toss these two interesting things out there, since i was perusing the first one all day and thinking about the second one the rest of the nite. first up is a funny site called sorry everybody (via gothamist). 49% of the u.s. (plus the global community) slowly comes to terms with bush’s re-election…and people around america offer their apologies to their fellow americans and to the rest of the world. ah misery loves company. at least theres a nice sense of community, as well as sympathetic understanding from those outside the u.s.

AUTOMATA
the second item of interest is this coo article from wired about the genius that was leonardo da vinci. while its already widely known that many of da vincis inventions were far ahead of their time, the article specifically looks at one of his more widely studied “inventions”…the 3-wheeled automobile. while many enthusiasts have already tried and failed to reconstruct a working model, a robotics specialist, mark rosheim, posits that the da vinci “automobile” was in fact part of a mobile robot that da vinci designed…and even possibly built. studying numerous recorded details and schematics, rosheim suggests that da vinci had played with the idea of a mechanical robot for entertainment purposes, that could not only actuate movement, but was also programmable. da vinci you crazy motherfucker. the article goes on to say that rosheim has actually reconstructed a working model of said robot according to da vincis plans, which will accompany his forthcoming book, leonardos lost robots. should make for some fascinating reading…

ADDENDUM
and i was totally right…fonz headed out 11ish to go grab his pre-ordered copy of halo 2. thats hardcore.
