so theres like this new movie coming out soon from china called hero. its got jet li and it looks super! jk, a year late yo…no movie news for this morning. instead, we’re gonna talk about spandex. hi-tech spandex…word. sci am has a coo article on the new technological fabrics being used by the athletes at this years olympics in athens. in events like swimming, fractions of a second shaved off could mean the difference between gold and silver, and companies like speedo, nike, and tyr are researching fabric technological to make sure that every millisecond is counted. speedos full-body fastskin swimsuit attempts to mimic the skin of a shark, with varying textures along the body to reduce friction drag and promote flow conditions. tyrs approach on the other hand is to try and increase friction drag, lessening two other types of drag; pressure drag and wave drag. two opposing methodologies…we’ll get to see whos tech is better in the events.
out of the water, track runners will also be sporting new versions of fast suits…as will the canadian rowing team, who will be wearing hooded sleeveless unisuits. should be an interesting olympics this year, especially with the athletes having to compete in shoddy half-built stadiums. ha, jk…theyre finished. i think.
