the 2004 tour de france has already begun, and lance armstrongs looking to notch his 6th tour de france win…making sure his bike tech is on par with his own staggering abilities. wired has a coo article today on the technology that goes into armstrongs gear.
first and foremost is his bike frame, the trek madone 5.9, constructed of carbon fiber and weighing a scant 2.43 lbs (the seatpost on my bike probably weighs more). his bike sports full shimano dura-ace components (with an extra 20th gear) and custom bontrager wheels that weigh a combined 42.32 ounces. throw in a $200 giro helmet, custom nike jersey and shoes, 105 powerbars and 210 powergels, and you hopefully have a potential six-time tour de france winner. word.

wow – disposable time trial wheels?
I think I’d pass on the powerbars & powergels. those things get nasty real quick…
