theres a coo article today on aicn about richard kelly, the writer/director of the under-appreciated movie donnie darko. kelly talks about, amongst other things, his influences (kafka, philip k dick, dostoevsky…), how jason schwartzman (rushmore) helped get darko off the ground, and darko’s potential re-release in march, 04. concerning the latter, kelly wanted to re-release a directors cut more akin to what was originally shown at the sundance festival back in 2001 and with possibly even more footage not found on the dvd. very coo. oh, and as an aside, they also mentioned that mcfarlane toys was working on a frank the bunny toy. creeeeepy. it should have a string in the back…and when you pull on it, frank goes, “wake up donnie…“
if you havent already, check out the donnie darko website made by the vicious ass-kickers at hi-res! and if you havent seen the movie…two things. one, dont bother with the website til you’ve seen the movie b/c you wont understand it. and two, why the fuck havent you seen donnie darko yet?

Outstanding!
