anime musings, part three. i’ve found anime to be a nice weekly distraction now…as long as i watch the episodes in a timely matter that is. most of the time i don’t, so they gather in my “to sort” folder until i watch them all in bulk. still fills a nice niche however for those rainy/cold/shitty/fuck i need to get out more but just can’t be bothered days.
bakemonogatari | odd as hell, but fascinating to watch. there’s little action, and alot of exposition…it’s more of a cerebral anime dealing with character development than anything. highly experimental too.
darker than black | this is actually season 2. i somehow missed season 1, so i just wiki’d it, caught up, and went straight into dtb2. a little confusing at first, but the stories are quality. and alot of people die. seriously…don’t get attached to any character that happens to wander onto the screen. they’re likely to get strangled, shot, electrocuted, or eaten alive by cockroaches by the end of the episode.
fullmetal alchemist | oh so much better than the first fma…which itself deviated greatly from the original manga source. this ones more true to the manga source, and it pays off.
haruhi suzumiya | great, and disappointing at the same time. they wasted too many episodes on the insane endless eight arc, which didn’t leave much room to bring in more of the light novel stories. blargh…at least there’s the chance of a third season.
needless | brainless action, and dragonball-esque fights that take 3 weeks to resolve. it’s surprisingly comedy-oriented however…and there are alot of those moments that work. otherwise nothing spectacular.
queen’s blade | seriously…jk. it’s shit. barely televisable hentai.
the sacred blacksmith | better known as sacred boobsmith. i gave it a chance, since the animation was top notch (manglobe…who did champloo). but shit are the characters dumb as fuck and the stories pedantic. it’s already been tossed off my hard drive.
to aru kagaku no railgun | the majutsu sidestory following mikoto instead of toma. thumbs up eh. and i didn’t point it out in the older anime roundups, but yea…majutsu’s thumbs up too.

Hi – I don’t comment on many websites but had to on yours. It’s really nice! I really like how you have it laid out, unlike a lot of other blogs. Thanks for having this site. I found your site while looking for something else on another anime site, and I don’t have time to read everything that is here right now, I have bookmarked the home page and will visit regularly to see the latest. What is your favorite anime movie? I couldn’t pick a favorite, they are all so well-done. Visit my site if you’d like to read more. Thank you again for your website, I really like it!
heh thanks. its come a long way since 2003, when i used to post 3 times a day everyday. i’m lucky if i post once a week now ;p
anime movies eh? summer wars was pretty damn good, as was paprika and the girl who leapt thru time from last year. all-time however probably still goes to end of evangelion. i still get goosebumps.
I’m gonna call clever spam on the above.
Darker than black S2 so far seems better than season1, although S1 had some awesome moments, Season 2 seems paced better. S1 never entirely found its footing.
you want to know whats funny? it pegged you as a spammer. i had to whitelist you when i was sifting thru the pending comments that were obviously spammers. and yea, im tanking the above comment. you sneaky bastard!
dtb s2 is still damn cryptic to me (tho i like it). so many terms and connections and people pissed at other people. and they’re still killing people off left and right. like yoko…wtf, she was the perky assistant! they’re not suppose to die! ah well, the next season of anime is ramping up…woot!
Yeah I left a couple other comments but I figured I might be getting the spam treatment.
Well you skipped S1 right? It wont necessarily make the whole thing easier to follow, but it might be worth watching if you want to see Hei in badass mode.
on the opposite end of the spectrum I’ve also been watching Kimi ni Todoke. 😀
really. and the comments just never appeared? odd.
ill get around to dtb s1 then. sometime…eventually. kimi no todoke was a bit too…yea, didn’t like the art direction. i stopped watching after the third episode. i did however have nyan koi and sasameki koto to fill the ‘mildly girly but potentially interesting’ category for me. ;p
