eternal sunshine

current selection | gorillaz vs. space monkeys – m1a1 (lil dub chefin’)
feelin’ | bagel-deprived

hmm…i let this movie slip under my nose. gothamist posted a link to the trailer for the upcoming charlie kaufman movie eternal sunshine of the spotless mind. directed by the crazy mofo michel gondry and starring jim carrey and kate winslet, its about a guy who tries to have the memories of his failed relationship erased from his mind. but as this is being done, his old memories of the girl begin to surface one by one, and deep in his mind he tries to prevent the erasure of his memories with her. the movie looks really coo…with a script by kaufman and direction by gondry, its not hard to imagine why.

lost in translation

current selection | norah jones – don’t know why
feelin’ | pooped

i finally got to see lost in translation last nite…yay! marisol and paulie were gonna go see it…and i wasnt sure whether i could go with them b/c i had to work on some freelance work. after determining that id jus suck it up and stay up however late i had to to finish the work, i trotted off to catch the 10pm showing with them in times square. i haveta say…im in love with japan all over again. nicely paced, subtle dialogue, and gorgeous shots of japan. must…buy…plane tickets. the only gripe i had with the movie was the tart sitting 2 seats down from me. every time there was a new scene, i could hear him telling his girlfriend stuff like “see that temple…thats the heian shrine. when i was in kyoto….” or “thats harajuku…when i was there…” dude…we get it. you’ve been to japan…congratu-fucking-lations. you kno those kind of ppl. argh. otherwise still a lovely movie.

random wednesdays

current selection | dreadzone – movin’ on (asian dub foundation mix)
feelin’ | normal

some random bits today. cinescape and ign previewed a pic from star wars ep3 of anakin lookin’ all late 70’s/early 80’s. im thinking it looks a hell of alot better than the crew and rat-tail he was sporting in ep2…they’re apparently moving back in time from the early 90’s. while ep1 sucked nuts and ep2 was only passable as a movie b/c of portman in leather and yoda kicking arse, im actually looking forward to ep3 b/c i wanna see all the jedi get their asses kicked. the new villains also suppose to be double-fisting light sabers. woo.

on a completely different note, gothamist wrote an entry today about some open pit bbq’s in nyc springing up…which got me all hungry. *droool…* i dont think ive had a good bbq’d dead animal in a while…so my plan for the near future is to hit up daisy may’s up in hells kitchen. (ahem…marisol)

and a last bit of addition…fonz gave me a heads-up of a new madelyn murray o’hair in hell short on the morning news. woo!

house of blue leaves

current selection | new order – subculture (1984)
feelin’ | sunny

ive had weird dreams (that i could remember) the last 2 days in a row. ive already forgotten most of tueday’s, but i do remember that it was another instance where i could remember things from my dream consciousness…a forbidden planet-type place that id been to b4 in another dream, only this time i noted that they had redone their interior. ok then. and last nite i dreamt that i went to my high school reunion. everybody had tattoos, and i still have crappy memory b/c thats all i could remember of it. *shrug*

there arent many domestic movies im anticipating at the moment. aside from the obvious ones like matrix revolutions and return of the king, the only other 2 (off the top of my head) are lost in translation (out this week) and kill bill vols 1+2 (oct + feb). the newest trailer for kill bill vol 1 is out…so go get ur crazy 88. tarantino goodness + swordfighting = bad ass! hmm…actually that equation holds true for lucy liu + uma thurman…chiaki kuriyama + sonny chiba too. chiaki kuriyama is a badass.

cin3matic contraband

current selection | de-phazz feat. pat appleton – mambo craze
feelin’ | a little sleepy…

you’d think a store the size of macy’s would have some decent picture frames. phoo. i headed to macy’s after work to hunt down 2 items….fitted bed sheets and a picture frame for a 11×14 print. woo homey accoutrements. i picked up a khaki colored ck bed sheets from the bedding department, and then went looking thru their picture frame area.

8x10s….8x10s….collage style…whazzahell. apparently nothing for 11×14’s. damn. so i left half content with my swishy new bed sheets. how exciting is that? a little after i get home, marisol calls to see if i wanted to check out charlie’s angels 2 with the crew…so im down with that. i gotta say…it was fun to watch. i feel a little less intelligent after sitting thru it, but it kept me entertained. one minor detail tho…i wasnt expecting something on the level of coppola or kurosawa, but the whole plot and pacing left me kinda feh. i mean, a movie can be stupid fun, but would it kill them to at least attempt a cohesive plot? and all those trivial plot points? they fucked over the thin man….i cant believe they brought back the thin man jus to fuck him over. yesh. otherwise…for the guys, theres alot of booty-shaking, girls butt-kicking, all the men looking lost, and diaz booty-shaking some more. everybody else seemed to enjoy it infinitely more than me…i must be some kind of weird. *shrug*

matrix reloaded finally!

current selection | rob d – furious angels

wow. woo. wow. i dont care what 22% of the critics on rotten tomatoes say. reloaded kicks the butts of many people…and then promptly strolls to their front and kicks the nuts of many people. the first question alot of people ask is answered with, “no, its not better than the first matrix.” the first matrix was revelatory. it was about discovery, both within the plot and for the audience. and because of that, anything that follows it will have lost the advantage of surprise. the wachowskis arent stupid. they know this…so they decided instead to elaborate on the world of matrix and bring detail to the abstract ideas of the first matrix. objectively, i can see where some of the criticism comes about. the episodic nature of the movie…the first 40 minutes or so of talk talk talk. but it doesnt matter. reloaded is a movie…a continuation of the first matrix, not a reinterpretation of it. i actually thoroughly enjoyed the first 40 minutes, the majority of which was used to take a detailed look at zion and its inhabitants (not to mention the super-coo blindingly white central operations center). another gripe was the heady philosophizing throughout…especially the last 15 minutes or so. alot of it was overt expounding, most of which just sounded like abstract drivel to the majority of people. but its from this unloading of alot of material that people can start gathering their ideas and hypothesizing what it all means. i have my own ideas, but i wouldnt be disappointed if revolutions shot down every single one of my guesses. its part of the fun. besides, the other gripe about too much action? are you on crack? the action/fight scenes are fucking coo. screw all those with ridiculous expectations and bitchings about, “i can tell its cg.” well shit, congratulations. dur. so what? it still rocked.

i do however have a few gripes….everybodys allowed gripes. firstly, i didnt want to see neos ass. also, monica bellucci was wearing clothes. the twins were definitely under-utilized. (at least they werent darth mauled) and i really wish they found a better spot to cut the movie at. bastards. anyhoo…wooha! me and fish are gonna try and watch it again next week.
