shrek 2 preview

[ current selection | alka yagnik (moulin rouge) – hindi sad diamonds ]
[ feelin’ | …im running out of adjectives ]

i feel like continuing this nice little cin3matic streak we have going on here. anyone catch the shrek 2 preview last nite? it was attached to the end of the broadcast premiere of shrek on nbc, and wow…shrek 2 will rock. aicn had a coo little write-up about it, as well as an early preview from a screening they had in arizona. the movie continues the storyline, with princess fiona’s parents, the king and queen of “far, far away“, inviting them to their kingdom so they can meet fionas new husband. theyre under the impression hes prince charming, the son of fionas fairy godmother…and when the fairy godmother finds out its not, she has the king hire puss’n’boots to kill shrek. etc etc.

anyhoo, the preview last nite showed more scenes from the movie, including more of antonio banderas puss’n’boots, fiona back as a human(?), and the “happily ever after” potion that donkey sucks down and turns into a steed. bwahaha. woo…cant wait til may 21st. anyhoo, in the meantime, you can check out the new trailer on the official site…which now after viewing it, is what they played last nite. rock!

cin3matic roundup

[ current selection | no doubt – its my life ]
[ feelin’ | muffins still sitting there damnit… ]

no, im not really a big fan of no doubt, but this tracks got a coo 80’s vibe to it that im digging…woot. so im out photographing around nyc and all this coo movie news just happens to come out that same day. bugger. first, some news about star wars eps3: return of the suck. amazon made a slight boo-boo(?) yesterday when they started offering a star wars novel with a particular cover portraying a major villain from the movie. oops. theyve already taken down the artwork from their site, but the image is already circulating around the internet. it features three characters on the cover…boba fett, some techno guild dude with bug-eyes…and the center dude, general grevious. you can refer to this older post btw. hes supposedly one of the main villains from eps3…and he doesnt look like a happy camper. so thats grevious…but where the hell is ventress? im thinking that she’ll prolly die in the second half of the clone wars mini-series and never make it to eps3. poot. suck. in more eps3 news (some not-so-new…*shrug*), killer movies posted a new insider pic from star wars.com of natalie portman macking on george lucas. jk, what a disturbing thought. something i hadnt noticed before…in their gallery of older insider pics, they have a little pic of the new clone troopers from eps3. these were just conceptuals, but they show how the new clone troopers will look like hybrids of the super troopers from eps2 and the old-school storm troopers of eps4. pretty coo shit. and with anakin sporting the dukes of hazzard hair and amidala sighing more, the movie might be at the very least entertaining, if not un-sucky.

addendum to star wars
after having read the newest round of blah blah blah-ing on aicn, more star wars news came up too. concerning the minute and a half worth of footage leaked…that besides that mini-featurette, there was apparently an even longer featurette that was shown to a select few people with actual scenes and storyboards from the eps3. the following is quoted directly from the article. > original article from aicn

sky captain backstage report

rockin’ article on ign today from the set of sky captain and the world of tomorrow. they get taken on the (non-existent) sets of the movie, scope out new reels from the movie, and get to chat with the producer jon avnet. straight from the mouth of the producer…”This is a movie by a nerd, for nerds, that just happens to be accessible to normal people. It’s very important. The revenge of the nerds, in my opinion, it’s over. The nerds have won. I mean seriously, when you think about our world. This is not nerd-friendly. This is nerd” straight up. big giant robots stomping down city avenues while ace pilots rain steel death from above…wooha! the movie will rock. ok, maybe itll suck. but it will be glorious sucking if it does. but i dont think it will suck. i hope it will be the opposite of “suck”, which incidentally is not “blow”, but “do good and kick ass.”

dvd habit reinstated

[ current selection | lost in translation in background ]
[ feelin’ | pooped ]

hooey…quiet and relaxing weekend. i had originally thought of going back to nj to chill with fish and coincidentally drop off some tax forms to my dad. but i needed to get some more forms, so i postponed that to another weekend. ive instead spent my weekend watching movies. i finished up 28 days later friday nite, and i intended to rewatch lost in translation tonite. i actually went on some errands saturday afternoon with the fonz…we headed to the 12st post office for some tax forms. they didnt have them (poot), so we then headed down to a coo asian dvd shop fonz saw on broadway called otaku den. they had a coo selection of anime and asian dvds, and i ended up picking up wonderful days (finally) and 0083 stardust memories (old school). kims and chinatown have kinda been slacking with their asian dvd selection (korean in particular), so its coo to find another place that stocks a buttload of dvds. hmm…wait, what am i doing? oh crap, there goes my netflix dvd-cut-back plan. feh.

lost in lost in translation

[ current selection | nick cave – there is a light ]
[ feelin’ | ]

funny how i started netflix so i wouldnt buy dvds anymore. thats what i told myself anyway. in actuality, my mind was mumbling under its breath “wouldnt buy (as many) dvds…” as i was passing thru virgin last nite, my hand seemed to involuntarily snatch the copy of lost in translation sitting innocently on the shelf. oops. i incidentally also received three new netflixes in the mail when i got back to my apartment…so i watched one of those before firing up lost to make myself feel better. the movie seemed even more relaxing this second time around, especially from the comforts of my television-flanked bed. ah…muy bien.

the making-of featurette for lost in translation was pretty coo also. portions of it were actually shot by coppola’s (soon-to-be) ex-husband spike jonze (he’s introduced with a hand reaching around the camera in one shot)…and by watching it, you see rather clearly the mirrors of charlotte and john. sophia coppola is charlotte…and spike jonze the basis for john. i wonder if spike saw the obvious parallels while he was shooting the featurette. it was also coo to watch the film being shot on location around tokyo amidst the flowing crowds of people. i had momentarily forgotten just how noisy and chaotic tokyo was…its easy watching the movie with its chill soundtrack. you apparently dont get your own muted soundtrack when you walk around tokyo…just alot of flyers.

catwoman poop

i dont think ive shivered like this in a long time. god, this is awwwwwful. anyone whos been following the progress of the forthcoming catwoman movie starring halle berry will have probably seen the numerous craptacular pics of her in the “re-imagined” catwoman outfit. and where i say “re-imagined”, they say “edgy, urban, blah blah blah.” think shredder meets a porn star who just took a dump on catwoman…and stole indy’s whip. IT. IS. SHIT. and it was pretty awful in all its static 2-dimensionality. but now moviebox (via aicn) has posted a small clip from entertainment tonight/access hollywood that features halle berry embarassing herself ridiculously in that sadly pathetic and yet still completely stupid looking catwoman “costume”. its not a costume really, its just bits of leather cobbled together here and there and what looks like the scalped head of a black llama. this movies going down in a flaming ball of explosive, poo-flinging gigli. can you hear halle berry flushing her career down the toilet?

the girl next door

heehee, yea right. dont we wish we all had hot pornstars living next to us? the new trailer for the you-wish movie, the girl next door is out…mentioned prior in the list of movies fox was releasing in 2004. i dont recall having many pornstars living next door to me. well…technically they werent pornstars…you could make the argument one way or another. anyway, another story. i think ive been perpetually surrounded by either old old retirees, wasp yuppies sporting saabs, or my current “window neighbor”…a brick wall. one could only hope for elisha cuthbert as a neighbor.
