aeon flux movie

[ current selection | takako minekawa – plash ]
[ feelin’ | friday…woo ]

and now for some seriously coo movie news. back in the days of liquid television, one of the better shows on was aeon flux, a series of animated shorts by peter chung. the show basically revolved around aeon flux, an assassin and spy who went around killing mountains of people, and then would pretty much die at the end of every short. it eventually got its own full show, and rocked all kinds of coolness. the idea of making a live-action movie of aeon flux had been tossed around for sometime now, but its been basically stuck in production heck since. today tho, cinescape reported that not only was the movie close to taking off, but theyre in talks to have charlize theron as aeon flux! woot! to be honest, shes not exactly the first person to pop in my mind when i think of aeon flux, but hey…shes hot and she can act. charlize could potentially rock much, tho she would have to shed some pounds to look like the lithe aeon flux. if i had it my way…i wouldve promoted keira knightley for the role. and not just because shes no2 on my hotness list. seriously, did you see her at the pirates of the caribbean premiere? thats aeon flux. charlize theron tho, she could rock too. here’s hoping she takes the role and straps on some leather dental floss…

cho chang casting

with prisoner of azkaban nearly finished, production and casting has already started on the 4th harry potter movie, the goblet of fire. so they already have a new director…mike newell (donnie brasco, four weddings and a funeral…), and theyve already begun casting some of the new characters like viktor krum and cho chang. hpana (via veritaserum) had a chance to talk to one of the 36 finalists for the role of cho chang…a girl named valerie who traveled 6 hours from scotland to audition. the initial audition was rather boring and pedestrian, but the follow-up workshop…which consisted of numerous “activities”…seemed a little weird. anyhoo, valerie is only one of the 36 finalists…but shes pretty cute. cute that is, in that “shes a minor and therefore stated in a platonic, non-offending“-manner. *ahem* personally, my pick for cho chang wouldve been akiko monou. sure shes not chinese (korean?), and shes probably twice as old as cho chang should be. but they can work around it. ok, maybe not. itll still be interesting to see who they get for cho…because she’ll get to go pms on harry in the 5th movie…

kill bill v2

[ current selection | cibo matto – about a girl ]
[ feelin’ | swell ]

a buttload of new kill bill v2 images just hit the net. there are still two months til v2 is released, so watch out for a few of the images. you could say their potentially spoiler-material. well, the spoiler-image in question has been floating around for a while…and youd have to be pretty stupid not to be able to figure it out for yourself. we’ll call it half of a spoiler then. anyhoo, there are alot of new images in the gallery of bud (sidewinder), bill, elle driver (mountain snake), and the sifu himself…pai mei (white eyebrows). im hoping v2 will still rock much even without the vicious asskicker go go yubari.

prisoner of azkaban early review

ahhh! theres already a review (of sorts) up for the upcoming harry potter: the prisoner of azkaban on aicn! there was an early screening of a rough-cut in chicago just recently, and one viewer wrote in his impressions of the nearly-finished movie. according to the review, alfonso cuarons take on potter is apparently more rich and dynamic. even tho the rough that was shown still had missing effects, the general feeling was that it was a richer environment and more expansive than was previously shown in the past potter movies. while i thought columbus’ first two movies were fine, it always felt as if he was playing it straight (which he was for the first one…but didnt have to for the second). so im eager to see cuarons take on the visually diverse potter world.

more trinity news

[ current selection | byul – twinkling black eyes ]
[ feelin’ | achey ]

aicn continues their interview with david goyer, talking in-depth about the upcoming blade: trinity. goyer brings up alot more info about the movie this time, including more info about the new characters (such of the nightstalkers), as well as the major plotlines. if you werent aware, the top dog of blade: trinity is actually none other than the impaler himself…dracula. (i did not know this). goyer goes over their coo mythology for the vampires, and how dracula was the progenitor of the entire race…as well as the basis for many ancient mythologies. very coo reading.

the second half of the article continues with a discussion about how goyer landed the role of directing in the first place. guillermo del toro, who directed the second blade, actually took on the job in hopes of helming a movie big enough to land him his dream project…which it eventually did. so after blade ii was released and guillermo was greenlit for his hellboy project, goyer was basically asked to take up the directing chair in his place. director by default…woo. there was also a funny bit about the casting of parker posey, where goyer describes the day she came into the casting call…and had no clue why she wanted to be in a vampire movie.

…she came in and kind of strutted in…I said, and you can hear me on the tape saying, “Why the fuck would you want to do this movie?” She said, “I don’t know. Because I want to be a Ghetto Vampire Chick. I want to be a Trailer Park Vampire Chick.” It’s about five minutes of me saying, “You don’t want to do this movie,” and she’s like, “No, I really do. I really do. I want to do something different.” I said, “Yeah, but you’re just going to make fun of it. You’re not going to take it seriously.” And she said, “No, no, no, I really want to do it.” She called me twice from New York, and said, “I really want to do it. I’ll be good, I promise. I’ll take it seriously.”

ha…cant trust parker. the article goes on to talk about some of goyers future projects, including the upcoming batman intimidation movie being directed by chris nolan. it sounds like the franchise is back in the right hands after being dirtied by the likes of joel schumacher. to quote goyer, “Fans will like it. No nipples. No codpieces…” …and thats all we ask for.

star wars eps3 behind the scenes

thanks to fonz for the heads up. the first of a series of making episode 3 featurettes was just released on starwars.com. the series will take a glimpse into the production of episode 3. the first of the series takes a look at the pre-production of the movie at the two main production areas…skywalker ranch in california and sydney, australia, as they lead up to the principle shooting. its a pretty coo insight into the workings of the star wars production…and you get to stare hypnotically at george lucas multi-chins of death too.

blade trinity

[ current selection | si*se – bitter sponge cake ]
[ feelin’ | munchy ]

you know, i was actually a fan of the first two blade movies. the original was all kinds of cool, and the second expanded on that (albeit not as polished). im also somewhat of a fan of david goyer, who not only wrote the three blade movies, but also the crow and one of my underdog favorites…dark city. so why havent i posted anything about the upcoming third movie, trinity til now? laziness yo. and to be honest, a certain lack of enthusiasm. i mean…its kind of hard following in the wake of the lord of the rings trilogy. i had what…some 20 posts just for return of the king? everything else just seemed kinda feh.

anyhoo, aicn posted a coo set report a few days ago. they paid a visit to the set of trinity and had a chance to talk with writer/director david goyer. goyer talks about a number of the cast members in the movie, new and old. kris kristofferson is back as whistler. and snipes, who goyers had some “difficulty” working with in the past, is apparently still a dick and a half. when asked whether he would work with snipes again…

Long pause. “Yeah,” says a resigned-sounding Goyer.” ha.

of particular note tho are the new cast members, including jessica biel and ryan reynolds as vampire hunters, parker posey as the head vampire, and wrestler triple h as her goon. i read about jessica biel signing on a while back, but didnt know about the other three. hmm…parker posey? triple h? bwahaha…the movie sounds alot more interesting all of a sudden. im actually looking out for ryan reynolds in particular. i just watched van wilder for the first time last week…and while the entire movie was pretty dodgy, the wilder man himself rocked. reynolds is a pretty coo actor, so hopefully he’ll be all kinds of rockin’ in trinity.

goyer went on to talk about whats in store after the third movie. while blade was conceived as a trilogy, he left open the possibility of making more.

Wesley told me when we did the second one that he thought he only had one more in him but you never know. We’ll see. I always conceived of three films and there is a definite ending to this. I don’t want to cheat (by opening it up again). On the other hand if it does $150 million, then . . . we’re all whores.
we’re all whores…word up.

lord of the rings featurette

theres a nice little featurette on the quicktime site on the making of the lord of the rings trilogy. its a coo 4 minute video of some of the cast talking about making the trilogy, peter jackson discussing his thoughts, and various scenes from the return of the king interspersed throughout. if you’ve been following the trilogy for the past couple years, theres nothing new to see. but some of the clips of the cast speaking about the movie sound like they could be from the special features of the forthcoming extended edition…since none of them were seen in the prior extended editions. seven months left til the extended edition is supposed to be released. c’mon! rush yo!

and in case people werent aware, the total take for the return of the king worldwide as of today is $981.9 million. its expected to break the $1 billion marker and will be the second highest grossing movie worldwide ever, behind titanics take of $1.8 billion and ahead of the first harry potters $968.6 million. holy shit.

the incredibles

[ current selection | danger mouse – december 4th ]
[ feelin’ | ached ]

aicn had a quickie sneak-peak at the upcoming pixar movie the incredibles. the movie wont be out til sometime in november…so they didnt get a preview of the entire movie. but what they saw was pretty rockin’. scenes of mr. incredible (bob actually) and his family of superheroes…the family kids picking on each other with their super powers…and bob getting fitted for a new costume. “…after reminding Bob that many superheroes have died in cape-related accidents – tells Mr. Incredible that the new suit should have “NO CAPE!”” hehe.

the incredibles will actually be one of the last movies made under the disney banner…cars being the last one. well, too bad for disney eh? pixar will hopefully go on to make even more rockin’ movies post-disney…

oh, and check out the three clips of the incredibles material on the pixar site. how long have those been up?

return of the king dvd release

[ current selection | danger mouse – change clothes ]
[ feelin’ | swell ]

yay…new news on the return of the king dvd release! finally…and this ones official yo. ign states that the fullscreen and widescreen dvds should be released may 25th, and the 4 (or even 5) disc extended edition being released sometime in september. woo! september is definitely worlds better than having to wait that extra 3 months til december per usual. they also threw in a small bit about scoopers mentioning a “dvd trilogy” being released in 2005. what that will look like is anyones guess. 12-disc dvd set eh? they should just pack that in a commemorative lunchbox or something. mmm…lunchbox. oh, and official images of the dvds too! of note is the extended edition dvd set. it has imagery on it like that of the “theatrical” dvd…which i kind of take issue with. the first two were simple green and red boxes, embossed with distinct motifs…the west gate of moria (fotr) and the rohirrim (ttt). i was hoping that the third box was going to be a slick black, to represent the gondorians/numenorians. feh…small nitpick. get those dvds out yo.
