halo halo halo

[ audio selection | black eyed peas – lets get retarded ]

not much to write about from this past weekend on the account that my right foot started to hurt…again, and i stayed home. whats the dilly yo? should i go see a podiatrist or something? i need a wheelchair. i did get to meet miller friday nite for din at danal. did you know theres a second floor? thats like wow…i never knew. ok, thats about it for the recap. everything else is pretty much halo halo halo…

so even tho i didnt do alot, i did learn alot of new things over the weekend. like really enlightening things. ive been watching arrested development since episode one, but i had absolutely no idea david cross played tobias fünke. no really, it shouldve been obvious in hindsight, with you know…the intro credits and all. i think the moustache just threw me off. and on top of his role in arrested development, i also found out that he did voice acting for halo 2. word’em up! hes apparently one of the marines that runs around and gets killed. so after i found out this bit of info, i was curious to see who else was in the halo 2 voice acting cast. not only did bungie get david cross, but they also got ron perlman (hellboy) as lord hood, orlando jones as a marine sergeant, and laura prepon (that 70s show) and michelle rodriguez (girlfight) as female marines. wow…rock on.

[ audio selection | groove armada – superstylin’ ]

poot, i missed the law & order filming in my lobby last nite. i was too busy chewing on cajun food at acme with the pho-meister. ah well…whatev. i think it was a diet law & order anyway, like “trial by jury” or something. the rockin’ cajun was more worth it, tho pho did get a bit of a stomach ache afterwards.

WILLY WONKA
anyhoo, the return of random movie news! yay! first up is a super-sneaky (possible) first look at the new willy wonka himself, johnny depp. from the set of tim burtons charlie and the chocolate factory, the sun (via aicn) has a fuzzy b+w spy shot of depp sporting dark shades and a tophat ala wonka. tho aicn speculates the shades are just circumstantial (read: not part of the costume), the tophat is straight-up wonka. coo beans yo.

EPISODE.3
second up is a treasure-trove of rumors, speculations, and confirmations (and shoot-downs) of rumors and speculations for the upcoming star wars eps3, via aicn. the collection of info apparently comes not only from around the web, but also from someone whos seen a rough cut of the movie…and some of the tidbits sound downright coo. i know, its easy to be suspicious. but who honestly cant wait to see the jedis get a costco-sized can of whoop-ass opened up on them? mace gets whacked, obi-wan kicks anakins ass, and sidious/the emperor takes a massive dump on the galaxy. sounds fun yo…so take a read of the lengthy collection of eps3 info.

DOA ULTIMATE
and finally, this isnt movie news or anything, but it makes for a good accompanying pic. while anyone whos ever played dead or alive has probably felt a little dirty for thinking the characters were hot (and they were), the game series nevertheless rocked. back in the kickass dreamcast days, we wasted away hours huddled around the tv in jen+carols 312 apartment with dead or alive 2, smacking each other stupid with girls in tiny outfits and guys in metallic teletubby costumes. the fact that the girls were hot, and that you could actually adjust the bounciness of their jumblies was merely a perk. so now the xbox gets doa: ultimate edition…a souped-up version of doa2 with more characters, badass graphics, an assload of extra features, beach costumes (read: bikinis), a kasumi santa costume (word)…and if you happen to be in japan and get the limited-edition kasumi-chan xbox package, a life-sized kasumi “love pillow” too. um…

warhammering

prologue: yea, more geeking today…word. i ran to four…yea, four stores looking for warhammer 40k: dawn of war after work yesterday. i swear, who are these stores buyers? hi, id like to stock my store with…hmm…5 copies. yea, that should be adequate. you fuck, i hate you.

anyhoo, the game rocks. im still trying to fig out how to input custom banners and badges. otherwise my space marine chapter, the orichalcyon: divine forge, are oot and aboot and kicking ass. still wish tho that i could somehow customize the game with my specialized space marine chapter, the seraphim (read: females in space marine armour).

ASIDE
oh, and m…smallville totally rocked. rocked you like a hurricane. lana got naked…like alot.

a bit of a forewarning to the non-fanboys reading: lots of geeking in this post. im allowed to geek every so often, right? no? fuck you.

STAR WARS TRILOGY
there are two things worth noting about tomorrow. one, the star wars trilogy box set (the original trilogy that is) finally gets released yo. motherfucking badass…its been years coming. ign has a review of the box set, so take a look before your childhood resumes to be pooped on by the release of star wars eps 3: i make mucho mucho money.

DAWN OF WAR
the second thing worth noting is that the ridiculously coo warhammer 40k: dawn of war comes out tomorrow. ive been thumping the demo for the last few weeks and im ready to get my full war on. ive got 5 space marine chapters, replete with insignias and banners, ready to go fuck shit up. hail to the emperor.

oh, and big fyi for marisol. smallville season premieres on wednesday. dont be missing it yo. ok, time for some arahan (thanks for the suggestion tg).

elder scrolls iv

word, big news for morrowind fans out there. ign reported today that bethesda softworks officially confirmed the development of elder scrolls iv: oblivion. this is rockin’ news, as elder scrolls iii: morrowind was arguably one of the finest rpgs, ever. the realm of morrowind was ridiculously expansive (morrowind was just an island. it wasnt even the frickin’ main continent), and the amount of detail which went into everything in the game…races, cultures, history (you cant even imagine the depth), religions, and social structures was absolutely staggering. im not usually the hardcore gamer (anymore anyhoo), but morrowind had me up for months. so while doom 3 didnt necessarily get me to upgrade my system, something like elder scrolls iv just might.

tekken 5 updates

its like tekken day yo…woo. if you havent been religiously keeping tabs on the development of tekken 5, why not? its gonna be rockin’ yo. the official tekken 5 sites been updated a number of times since the last tekken post, featuring most of the playable characters now. the only (obvious) ones still missing from the character previews are lee chaolan, lei wulong, nina williams, kuma, and heihachi. ign incidentally also has a slew of new screenshots of the game in action, showing off the new character models and costumes. and over on tekken zaibatsu, not only do they have preview pics of the aforementioned missing characters, as well as a few character story descriptions, but they also have a preview pic of what appears to be heihachi standing amongst flames wearing a helmet with horns and a mane. badass yo…maybe heihachis channeling ogre/toshin.

metroid, fable, and warhammer

today gets to be gaming day, just because im random like that. i love games, you know that. im just not as hardcore as i used to be, pumping $10 worth of quarters into arcade machines weekly and rockin’ the computer and console games 24/7. ah…those were the days.

ECHOES
first up are new movies and artwork for the sequel to metroid primemetroid prime 2: echoes. two of the movies showcase samus in action, wailing on little defenseless bugs and fauna of a foreign ecosystem, while the third shows off some of the conceptual artwork behind echoes, including the new dark enemies as well as the dark samus. wooha.

FABLE
second up is a title that i just recently read about…peter molyneux’s fable. personally, i love open-ended rpgs that essentially let you roam the world. i rocked thru morrowind with 10 different characters, each a little different from their predecessor. so reading fables premise definitely had me interested. its morrowind on a completely different scale…where anything you want to do, you can do. and everything you can do, can and will affect how people perceive you in the game. you can choose to walk down any path of life you want…whether its to be good, evil, sadistic, hulking, scrawny, fighter, magic-user, hairy, well-groomed, tattooed, single, married, divorced, monster slayer, or chicken-kicker. you can do anything…which is just nuts.

…you’ll find chickens you can kick. Man alive, I can’t pass up the opportunity to punt a chicken. Build up your strength and you can punt it further. You can even use magic to assist in your distance kick. Don’t worry, kicking chickens is apparently legal within city limits, so you can kick one right in front of a guard without repercussion.

you can also decapitate enemies and play soccer with their heads…amongst other things. the game is definitely ambitious, and its looking pretty good at meeting their lofty goals. and while im hoping tho that its not just for the xbox, ill still be waiting to see this game in action…

WARHAMMER 40K
i also spied my roomie rockin’ the warhammer 40k: dawn of war beta last nite, and the game looked absolutely ridiculous. his eldar army was roaming the bombed-out streets, taking on ork troops and pink(?) space marines. the game is definitely the spiritual descendant of starcraft, which is pretty apt because starcraft was almost certainly influenced by the warhammer 40k universe. i was waiting for fonz to bring out the badass motherfucker himself, the eldar avatar (i painted one for myself back in high school)…but a game bug or something seemed to prevent him from making one. fuckers. anyhoo, definitely a game to watch out for. warhammer 40k is complete badass.

avp and voldemort

ok, i get to hit a few points for today. theyre like all over the place. theres a supposedly coo new avp clip up, showing a predator and alien beatdown. im saying “supposedly” because i havent seen the movie yet. do you know why? because movie streaming sucks big dong. im a fan of quicktime, but i generally have no problems with standard windows media…and realplayer is just passable. but streaming of any media, its just donkey balls. when they say streaming, what they really mean is that theyll reportedly stream you the movie, but what you actually see is so choppy that its really just a glorified slideshow. anyway, so i havent seen it yet.

as an aside, mcfarlane toys will be handling the rockin’ toy tie-in for avp, and they have an avp gallery up of their hyper-detailed predators and aliens. they have two aliens and three of the predators seen in the trailers, which they refer to as scar, elder, and celtic. very coo. i think ill be getting either scar or celtic.

POTTER YO
the other big news today is that the role of lord voldemort for the fourth harry potter movie, the goblet of fire, has just been confirmed. its ralph fiennes yo! the english frickin’ patient/dolarhyde is lord voldemort…coo shit. the potter franchise has always been particularly good with their casting decisions, and i think ralph fiennes is a pretty inspired casting.

doom 3

satanists rejoiced as the long-anticipated doom 3 has finally hit the shelves, and ign has a hands-on. ign takes a look at how doom 3‘s evolved from its predecessor, changing from a run-and-gun to more of a thriller. i spied my roomie fonz creeping his way thru freaky dark halls last night, shotgunning zombies and imps. the graphics looked pretty sick, and its a significant jump from the its predecessor, doom 2. i still remember interning at an office the summer after my senior year of high school, and a group of us interns had set up doom 2 stations and played deathmatches incessantly during lunch breaks. ah…those were the days. anyhoo, i may get the game, but im still not sure how my geforce 4 would perform. fonz was sporting an fx card, and the graphics looked pretty sweet at max settings (but at a reasonable resolution), so maybe my geforce 4 would be able to handle it. i really just want to see the revamped cyberdemon…

doom 3 is satanic!

this is mildly entertaining…a website trying to ban the sale of the forthcoming game doom 3. why you ask? because it promotes satanism you nut…what with all the demons and hell-theme and stuff going around. the site duly notes the following reasons, which are 100% true!

* It promotes Satan and his many minions! (darn tootin’!)
* Although you are slaying demons, you are still tempted by Satan’s powers! (mmm…entrails…)
* The people who made this game obviously worship Satan! (well, i suppose carmack is rather scary…)
* This game was made to mass propagate Satanism and it’s many negative ideas! (stare at mee hypno-raaaay….)
* The game is targeted towards the teenage audience, who are easily manipulated! (yea, look at all the christian zealots out there…)
* The game was made to scare people, and to show them the awesome powers Satan can use on people’s minds. It does it so well in fact, that playing this game could cause people to worship Satan! (must find sacrificial goat…)
* The game contains extreme violence, gore, ritualistic worshipping, Satanism, habitation of other planets God did not intend for us to live on, and the use of guns. (god says LIVE ON EARTH!)
* Realistic graphics too (sic) attempt to glorify Satan. (pixelated satans are ok tho)

he forgot to cite the periodic satanic propaganda a demon will go into before you shotgun him. “and by the way kids, support your local satanic cult…” *pchoooey!* right…well whatever gets this dude up in the morning.
