a person who saw the (hee-larious) pics of andy lau and his prosthetic meat cannons sent in a review for that movie, running on karma (karma karma chameeeeleon. jk, what a terrible song) on aicn, if anyone was curious.

also of note is a whole gallery of pics from the upcoming movie king arthur by antoine fuqua. unlike past movies about king arthur, this one takes a more historical approach to the literature of camelot, speculating that it took place, in fact, around the fall of the roman empire. so theres no “farcical aquatic ceremonies”, no siege perilous, and theres merlin…but i dont think hes going to be much of a wizard. i personally think its an interesting approach…since how many ways can you depict someone pulling hacking instruments from a bloody stone? and oh yea…keira knightley is guinevere. that always helps their case.

me and fish caught kill bill after work today on 3rd ave. if you were to ask me what i thought, id tell you “viciously ass-kicking…” with mebbe a side of sick and twisted carnage. but just a little bit. call me desensitized, but i dont know what everybodys grumbling about when they say its the bloodiest movie ever made. we headed to yakitori taisho afterwards…but after waiting nearly an hour with no progress (it was already 11pm), we left and headed to cosi instead for coffee and chess…and mebbe even their food too. we ordered half a pepp/half tomatos and (??) pizza…with drinks to boot. the chess game started pretty focused, with calculated positioning from both sides. the game eventually falls into random trades and some pretty bad positioning on my part tho…feh. dora calls me shortly after our food arrives and eventually comes down with sally to join us. spectators again…woo. after some more bad positioning, fish pulls what seems like a lure tactic…but turns out to just be a bad mistake. im going, “you’re throwing the game!” blah…which im pretty sure he was b/c he eventually starts losing piece after piece. even after giving away his pieces, it still takes me a while before i check him with a rook, a fresh queen, and a bishop. fish, you gave me that game! argh!

anyhoo…afterwards, fish takes off to head back to nj and the rest of us go shoot some pool on 4th ave. sally’s a fucking hustler and schools both me and dora. besides learning to never bet against sally, i also learned that knowing geometry (or whatever semblance of geometry knowledge left in my mind) and actual usuage of said knowledge are quite different. in laymans terms…i suck at pool.

and oh yea…on the cin3matic front, a quicktime file for the upcoming michel gondry movie eternal sunshine of the spotless mind (right-click save) was posted, as well as a trailer for the new tim burton movie, big fish. what is it about tim burton movies that makes me willingly hand over $10? i mean, i even paid to see the dredge that was planet of the apes. thankfully, big fish looks very coo…it probably has something to do with the use of the theme from edward scissorhands in the trailer. i think ive been conditioned to just be hypnotized by its soothing soothing music. same goes for eternal sunshine then i suppose. gotta love the elo. mr. blue sky, please tell me why…

arghhh…my eyes!!! its movies like lord of the rings that makes me infinitely regret that im not in the movie industry in some form. im still under the belief that the lord of the rings trilogy will go down as probably the greatest trilogy in cinematic history. id stand by that comment.

shit…where to begin. new trailers that debuted over the weekend include a new teaser for katsuhiro (akira) otomo’s steamboy, the new infernal affairs 2 (a prequel), and a trailer for the upcoming movie the alamo, all c/o aicn. i thought id throw in that last one about the alamo b/c i used to study it all the time as a kid growing up in texas. for anybody out there who isnt familiar with the alamo (read: the majority of the country), its a fort in san antonio thats an important part of texas history. the alamo was one of the last famous battles of the texan war of independence after texas declared independence from mexico. the battle of alamo also involved prominent figures from american folklore, including davy crockett and jim bowie. least to say, it wasnt one of the happier battles, unless u happened to be the mexican general santa anna. anyhoo, if youre curious, check out the official alamo web page for the not-so-happy accounts of the final battles.

last, but not least…a hi-res trailer for the return of the king hasnt been released yet, but a lo-res version has. fell beasts kicking rohan riders asses…aragorn looking macho (yay, i have a new sword!)…and gandalf laying down some whoop-ass. im getting all sorts of funny feelings watching it…some shivers, mebbe a tear or two. you could say im a little excited. whew.

in another bit of cinema news, the new the lord of the rings: the return of the king trailer will be attached to the movie secondhand lions coming out this friday. the trailer will be released to the internet masses on monday, so keep a look out. for anyone whos read the trilogy, then you probably already know that the return of the king will be badass. four words….witch king of angmar. harry of aint it cool news fanboyed over the trailer…read if your curious.
