random bits of movie stuff

[ current selection | dubpistols – anarchy ]
[ feelin’ | pooped ]

i think the subject line says it all. random bits of movie stuff cobbled together because its early, i feel groggy, and i need a haircut. first up, killer movies reports that the return of the king dvds release date has been set for may 25th. wait…wtf? i already posted about this back in february. get with it yo. they do however list the special features included with the dvd…so you could take a look at that. anyhoo, moving on. in a followup to the prior post about the narnia chronicles making its way to the big screen, the first casting rumor has already started circulating. nicole kidman is rumored to be in the running for the role of the white witch, a belligerent lush who has a penchant for dry vermouth, gaudy 18th century clothing, and small scottish terriers. or so i hear, because ive never read the books before. righty-o.

avp trailer
and lookee here, theres a new exclusive internet trailer for the upcoming alien v. predator by paul “mortal kombat” anderson. the trailer has no dialogue, and most of the images are choppy, ambivalent, and absolutely uninformative…but i suppose its fairly interesting. notice the tension build as you listen to minutes worth of heavy breathing and slimy gooey sound effects. i dont know about you, but that would get me all excited about a movie too…things breathing and making slime noises and shit. *shrug*

batman begins

the first image having to do with chris nolans new batman movie, batman begins, finally hit the internet today via aicn. it looks like a hipshot of promo art for the movie…and its pretty coo to see the batman logo stitched on what looks like cotton fabric. no rubber armor enhanced with nipple projectiles…just a plain look for batmans beginnings. check it out…

the day after tomorrow trailer

shit…absolutely scary trailer for the upcoming roland emmerich summer blockbuster movie the day after tomorrow. the disaster movie, starring jake gyllenhaal, dennis quaid, and ian holms, looks at the very real threat of climate change at a global scale. think melting ice caps, massive tornadoes tearing apart cities, giant tidal waves destroying all of manhattan, etc…this is roland emmerich after all. theres just something absolutely eery about seeing the whole of manhattan frozen over…and having people trudging their way over what used to be the new york harbor. and unlike other world catastrophe movies of the past where humanity faced off against invading aliens with unencrypted software (a newbie mistake), evil sentient robots, giant space-borne asteroids blasting aerosmith, or even your basic level chud, this is natures wrath at hand and is altogether unavoidable…hence the title of the movie. take a look at the trailer and glimpse some frightening images of a possible (near) future.

hellboy + rotk dvd

woo for the new hellboy trailer! aicn just posted a new trailer for hellboy today, and its looking pretty sweet. hellboy smashing things, kroenen looking like he wants to smack you stupid…wee! so lets see…todays march 3rd. so that means theres still…lets see, subtract a month…carry the two…30 days! 30 days til hellboy premieres! i (heart) arithmetic.

rotk dvd update
and in a short article on ign concerning the return of the king dvds, peter jackson mentioned a prank on elijah woods that they wanted to put on the extended version…and nonchalantly mentioned that it was for november. poo, thats one extra month from the prior news. pj also talked about wanting to create a special high definition version of the trilogy after he finished his work on king kong. ign pointed out that given the timeline of king kong, that would put the hd-version sometime in 2006, which would coincide with the release of hd-dvd onto the market. itd be interesting to see if that happened, since an hd-version of the awe-inspiring lord of the rings trilogy might initiate the sale of hd-dvd players the way the original matrix brought dvd players into demand.

eternal sunshine of fuck you!

damnit…bugger boy tien got to see eternal sunshine of the spotless mind last nite! damn youz. (as green glazes over my eyes) seriously, why do i never get a chance to see pre-screenings? i mean…i lived like 2 blocks from a theater for 6 months, and not once did i ever get a chance to see a pre-screening. ive passed by plenty of people numerous times who had tickets for pre-screenings, but i hated them too. there was a sneak preview for the girl next door a few weeks ago…but i gave that up to have movie nite with friends (who ended up falling asleep). and besides…sneak previews arent the same as pre-screenings. poot.

people, i am a movie fanatic. not at the disturbingingly unhealthy level of harry knowles of aint it cool news or anything, but its still a relatively unhealthy film enthusiasm. please invite me to pre-screenings. pleeease. for good movies too…i dont want to be seeing no tween crap like mean girls or 13 going on 30. so if you have pre-screenings for hellboy, sky captain, or shrek 2, please send tickets my way.
sank you.

narnynarnia

with the return of the king rampaging thru hollywood like a coked-up godzilla, the fantasy genre of movies got a nice boost in respect amongst the industry. another distinguished fantasy literature that was in the process of receiving the cinematic treatment was the narnia chronicles by jrr tolkiens best bud, cs lewis. while that production was initiated before the lotr oscar smackdown, news came today post-academy awards on aicn that disney had signed on to finance and distribute the first movie, the lion, the witch and the wardrobe. woo! i think. i have to be honest…i had the entire set as a kid, and it actually just sat on my bookshelf gathering dust. i mean, if you werent that interested in reading to begin with, how would a book about a lion, a witch, and an awe-inspiring fantabulous magical wardrobe see about getting your attention? it wouldnt. so now i wonder whether its still in my room somewhere. hmm…

anyhoo, id be interested to see the movie regardless. im sure that lion does some crazy shit…

azkaban and vampires

[ current selection | amanda ghost – filthy mind ]
[ feelin’ | swell ]

the harry potter ana just posted a new azkaban trailer…woo! the trailer contains alot of scenes that were shown in the prior teaser trailer, but there are a few additional scenes, including more outdoor shots, sirius black being held by aurors(?), and a slightly longer version of the scene with the dementor on the train. woo creepy…cant wait. the movie is still set to be released in june, so hopefully there will be one or two more trailers before its premiere…

blade | trinity
and in other odd cin3matic news…somethings fishy about the new ign interview with david goyer. jeff otto of ign talked with writer/director david goyer on the set of blade: trinity, and the funny thing is…it reads exactly like the prior aicn interview by mr. beaks. well, not “exactly” as the questions asked from ign were…”more civil.” they essentially asked the same questions, albeit worded differently. the answers given by goyer however, were the same word-for-word. hmm…weird. so theres three obvious possibilies. one…jeff otto of ign is pulling a freshman year internet copy+paste. two, it was a group interview…and all the interviewees wrote the same thing. or three, jeff otto is mr. beaks of aicn. moonlighting, eh? i wonder…

2004 oscar night yo

wow…lord of the rings smackdown! a clean sweep with 11 oscars…holy shit! its now tied the most oscars won with titanic and ben-hur…lovely company. 11 oscars tho…it was like they had their thumb and forefinger prepped and just went around aiming at everybodys head going, “im squishing your head…im squishing your head…” they won almost every single category they were nominated in…or was it every single category? woo peter jackson! i think he shat his pants walking up to the stage.

oh, and go sofia coppola for best screenplay…woo! i figure that they had to give best picture and best director to the lord of the rings and peter jackson, so it was coo that she still received an oscar for best original screenplay. highlights of the nite included…annie lennox’s performance of “into the west“, the triplets of belleville number, jack black and will ferrell’s lyrics ad lib, aeon flux winning an oscar, and the next door neighbors slamming their fucking door 10 times. do you people not know how to close your doors normally? i hate those wankers. > continued…
