kerry conran and jon avnet

are you tired of sky captain news yet? no? fuck, youd better not be, because thats gonna be some fine shit. aicn has up a coo interview with director kerry conran and producer jon avnet about making sky captain. conran gives an interesting insight into what it took to get sky captain off the ground, as well as the process they went thru to cast actors and actresses for the roles…which turned out to be pretty brilliant. a month or so left…ack.

aeon flux castings

ign broke news today about a buttload of new castings for the forthcoming aeon flux movie with charlize theron. ign reports that the new cast members include marton csokas (lotr, xxx), jonny lee miller (banged angelina jolie), sophie okonedo (dirty pretty things), amelia warner (quills), and caroline chekezie (the footballers’ wives)…with girlfight director karyn kusama directing. the article describes the various roles they play, including csokas as trevor fairchild…word. while not exactly how i pictured his movie alter-ego (id have gone with someone like gary oldman), ill give them the benefit of the doubt. very coo nonetheless…

sky captain interviews

movie news bonus for me self! yay for birthdays. two sky captain interviews were posted on aicn…one with the lovely bai ling, and the other with the sky captain himself…jude law. bai ling discusses coming to america from china, her role as the “mysterious woman” in sky captain, her upcoming role in star wars ep3, and a few of her future projects. and jude law talks about making sky captain, pining for his own stomping robot (with light-up visors), and the obligatory dirty joke. so definitely check the interviews out. how many weeks left til sky captain comes out? bugger, still too many…

badass stealth

wanted to add this quick bit of news too. i hadnt heard of this before, but spy pics were sent in of a seemingly new top-secret stealth plane on board the uss john c. stennis. too bad its not real, because it looks absolutely badass. the secret stealth plane in question is reportedly for rob cohens upcoming movie stealth, starring josh lucas and jessica biel. the plane looks seriously badass, and one could only wish that actual navy and air force planes looked so evil.

life aquatic

[ audio selection | stars – heart ]

a few months ago, there were all these articles on aicn about wes andersons upcoming movie, life aquatic. gosh the screenplay rocks…holy shit the preview was awesome, etc. but it was all in text, so i was like “feh, ill wait it out.” im a bit of a visual person. so just this past weekend, as we were sitting through the hour-long previews before garden state, up pops bill murray in a red jacque costeau cap shaking his ass to what sounds like midi electropop. holy shit, its the trailer to life aquatic (with steve zissou)…and it was rock. and today, up pops the trailer online at yahoo movies, and its still rock. dig bill murray as he goes shark-hunting…

“what would be the scientific purpose of killing it?”
“revenge…”

movie news all over the place

holy shit, its like movie news christmas. or hannukah…except i didnt quite hit the “eight” marker. whatev, yay for coo movie news!

SMALLVILLE
first up is a new pic of lois lane from the upcoming season of smallville, courtesy of cinescape. erica durance will be playing the intrepid reporter and future mrs. superman, lois lane, and shes looking pretty good in the promo pic. not as good as say…um, i dunno…lana lang. but hey, maybe she has a beautiful depth and personality that clark will inevitably be infatuated with and pick over lana. or something. clark you fucking idiot.
the same article also talks about a young flash making an appearance in one episode during the season. the character of bart allen is supposedly the grandson of the golden age flash, who isnt the same as the other flashes like wally west and jay garrick…(?) ok, right. i dunno much about dc comics, so ill just nod my head.

AVP
next up is harrys take on avp, which apparently made its friday theatrical premiere despite its premiere party being cancelled. harry gives it a pretty merciful review, enjoying the movie despite all the movies apparent faults glaring straight down at him from the screen. feh…this is what happens when you take two rated r movies and combine them for a pg-13 movie. its like taking the voltron lions and combining them to make a ballet-dancing robot with a magic wand. at least i psychologically prepped myself for the worst, and told myself that id watch the movie regardless. i had good practice with the prior star wars: episode crap movies.

BLADE TRINITY
keep it coming yo. aicn also pointed out a coo online clip of jessica biel in action courtesy of maxim, which was originally shown at the comic-con. the clip begins with a cloaked woman and her baby being harassed by vampire punks. they snatch the baby and start giving the woman a beatdown, when all of a sudden the baby turns out to be a doll and sprays garlic on the guy. the woman rips her cloak off and starts handing out ass-kickings left and right. pretty coo shit, and dig her glowing composite bow. the movies set to be released in december…wooha.

SKY CAPTAIN
and finally, theres a rockin’ aol exclusive behind-the-scenes from sky captain. the preview features all the primary actors and actresses talking about making the movie, as well as showing clips from the blue-screen shootings alongside the composited special effects. very very coo. dear paramount, for gods sake push up the release date.

avp clips

as a follow-up to last weeks avp post, i finally got to see the avp fight clip via quicktime…rather than the prior poo that is streaming. the fights pretty badass, with the predator laying a vicious smackdown on an alien. and theres not only a clip of the fight between the alien and predator, but also a second clip (that i hadnt seen before anyway) with a predator getting skewered by an alien. very coo, so check it out.

also worth mentioning is that while commercials and adverts have all been saying that avp would be premiering august 13th, recent rumors have suggested that it may not meet the deadline. cinescape reports that the movie premiere at graumans chinese theater that was originally set for today has been cancelled because andersen was still editing the movie. lance henriksen confirmed the cancellation, but says that andersen was still set on making the 13th regardless of the premiere cancellation.

avp and voldemort

ok, i get to hit a few points for today. theyre like all over the place. theres a supposedly coo new avp clip up, showing a predator and alien beatdown. im saying “supposedly” because i havent seen the movie yet. do you know why? because movie streaming sucks big dong. im a fan of quicktime, but i generally have no problems with standard windows media…and realplayer is just passable. but streaming of any media, its just donkey balls. when they say streaming, what they really mean is that theyll reportedly stream you the movie, but what you actually see is so choppy that its really just a glorified slideshow. anyway, so i havent seen it yet.

as an aside, mcfarlane toys will be handling the rockin’ toy tie-in for avp, and they have an avp gallery up of their hyper-detailed predators and aliens. they have two aliens and three of the predators seen in the trailers, which they refer to as scar, elder, and celtic. very coo. i think ill be getting either scar or celtic.

POTTER YO
the other big news today is that the role of lord voldemort for the fourth harry potter movie, the goblet of fire, has just been confirmed. its ralph fiennes yo! the english frickin’ patient/dolarhyde is lord voldemort…coo shit. the potter franchise has always been particularly good with their casting decisions, and i think ralph fiennes is a pretty inspired casting.

rotk + casshern

this is getting to be an overly covered topic, but i dont really care. me likey lord of the rings. aicn has a nice interview with billy boyd (pippin) and david wenham (faramir) from the san diego comic-con last week. they discussed some highlights from the upcoming rotk extended edition, which theyve already seen since they had just finished recording their commentary tracks. they both talk about scenes they were involved with that will be included in the extended edition, including faramir getting jiggy with eowyn and pippin laying the smackdown on an orc. and while they were at it, billy boyd also tosses in a dirty joke for shits and giggles. you dirty little hobbit.

MORE CASSHERN REVIEWS
a few more casshern reviews showed up on aicn recently. the first reviewer liked the movie so much, he pretended the movie was a woman and dry-humped it. jk, thats a disturbing thought. he still liked it alot, so thats coo. in the second set of reviews, the first reviewer liked casshern alot as well, stating that it might well be his favorite movie of all time. yay for that! the second reviewer however pisses on the party and criticized the lack of a pay-off in terms of a “fun, blow everything up with really cool superpowers type of story.” which is only partially what the movie is about. so its reassuring at least that he wrote that, because it lets me dismiss his review for the most part. ok, enough reviews. bring out the dvd…like, now.

NOTE | hmm, the dvd is suppose to come out october 23rd. ok, hello…sooner.

UPDATE | BATMAN BEGINS
overlooked this by accident. new amateur footage of the batmobile suv from batman begins was posted on aicn. the footage was shot by a bunch of fans scoping out the set and is actually pretty crisp and clear, showing the suv zooming around the streets of chicago/gotham city. very coo…definitely check it out.

garden state, villages, and zombies

today is garden state day…with a sprinkling of shyamalan and zombies. tien pointed me towards zach braffs garden state blog yesterday. braffs got a blog yo…hows that for coo beans? theres also a nice ny times interview with zach braff. the interview looks into braffs jersey upbringings (hes from s. orange) and what inspired the stories of garden state. its actually kind of odd to read about what went into the melancholic character of andrew large from garden state when placed next to goofy JD from scrubs. theyre pretty much polar opposites, and braff himself probably resides somewhere between the two. anyhoo, take a read, and then go check out the movie.

and while we’re on the topic of garden state, ign also has an interview with natalie portman. they talk and stuff…and she replies with words and sentences. mmm…portman.

SHYAMALANS POOP
so the following two reviews essentially confirm it, the village is dog shit. quint and moriarty from aicn both trash shyamalans latest movie, stating that while hes still a cinematic genius, the movies gorgeous, the actors are great…the storys still a giant suck. big fat suckage. quints review trashes the movie detail by detail, then prays that shyamalan doesnt walk down the path of lucas. and moriartys review spells out ALL THE MAJOR PLOT POINTS for you while neglecting to post up a spoiler warning. bugger. no biggie i suppose…i havent even seen the movie and figured out as much anyway. his review just confirms what i was afraid of in terms of the plot twist. read away if youre dying of curiosity.

MEAT PIE
and for those unaware, the british horror/comedy shaun of the deads making its way to america yo, via focus features. and the north american trailer just hit the web. zombies and comedy…word. shaun is a badass.

theres no ‘i’ in team. but there is an ‘i’ in pie…in theres an ‘i’ in ‘meat pie’. the anagram of ‘meat’ is ‘team’…i dunno…
