aeon flux set report

coming soon/superhero hype has a coo report from the set of aeon flux…with pictures! (are these even new? the article seemed pretty blase about them…) first and foremost, this is a very coo thing…seeing coo new pics from the forthcoming movie. the downside however is that i never really expected it to look exactly like the original animated series. i mean, it would most definitely be a good thing if they had convinced charlize theron to prance around for 2 hours in dental floss, but i just didnt see it happening. and as such, i was not too surprised to see that pictures of charlize therons aeon flux were more…sigh…”realistic”. they look good tho, just not ass-wedgie with patches of cloth and leather straps good.

team zissou

[ audio selection | semisonic – fnt ]

scientist: (regarding the shark zissou is hunting) what would be the scientific purpose of killing it?
steve zissou: revenge.

word…last nite tien invited me along with the gothamist crew to a screening of the life aquatic. they were pretty uptight about video recorders and the such, so anybody with a camera phone and/or camera had to check their shit in. yes, because the 0.1 megapixel camera on my phone is able to produce high-quality pirated versions to put up on the internet. but whatev…after those formalities, we got comfortable in the back row of the mezzanine with drinks and a bucket of popcorn and watched the coo-ness that was team zissou.

i personally thought rushmore was the best wes anderson movie before this, but now might concede that title to the life aquatic. there was more depth in terms of development, rockin’ deep sea adventures, and a breadth of characters that all kind of lend themselves to the quirkiness of team zissou. highlights of the crew included klaus (willem dafoe) the jaded german (“im sick of being B-team!“), jane the journalist (a surprisingly emotive cate blanchett), steve zissou (dur), and of course, the unpaid interns.
(right after pirates have raided the ship and the interns are quitting)

steve zissou: im not going to fail you, but im giving you all incompletes.
intern: this sucks.

on a more interpretative note, i liked how the narrative of the story lends itself to a bit of uncertainty in regards to what is “documented” and whats “scripted”…since “the life aquatic” actually refers both to the movie and to the documentary team zissou is purportedly making. this is evident from the very first scene with the first half of his “documentary” being screened, in recurring contrasts between whats “on the record” and “off the record”, and especially illustrated nicely in the “tour” of the belafonte…team zissous ship…and how it is literally treated like a cross-sectioned movie set.

if your a wes anderson fan, you’ll probably want to catch the life aquatic. it rocks yo. and dig the synthesizer theme song. doo do…doo do…doo do…do do…

gundam and the king

two quickies for today…just because they rock so much. first up was this bit of unexpected coo-ness from aicn. a contributor wrote in that during a random meeting with mobile suit gundam creator yoshiyuki tomino, tomino made an off-hand quote that suggested a live-action gundam movie was currently being developed with a major hollywood studio. holy shit that rocks. with the transformers movie currently being developed too, as well as that fruity dancing citroen, live-action robots seem to be the new black. no complaints here.

THE KING YO!
and this baby…woo! a new SIX-MINUTE preview of the upcoming return of the king special edition dvd has been put up on the lord of the rings website. holy shit is it coo. so much eye candy it hurts. hopefully ill be able to snag the dvd early…heehee…

100 movie quotes…and more halo

[ audio selection | black eyed peas – the boogie that be ]

its friday again, and blah blah blah something or other. its funny how fall/winter/cold weather/whatever makes effort-making so hard. cold weathers like a special pair of goggles that, when put on, makes everything outside your window look like crap…and conversely, makes your bed look like sweet, sweet heaven. ah well, i think i have plans for the weekend. id better…otherwise ill be curled up in bed straight thru to monday.

TOP 100 MOVIE QUOTES
cnn has a coo article about a cbs special coming out next june, organized by the american film institute and counting down the top 100 quotes from u.s. movies. classics like “heres looking at you, kid“, “you cant handle the truth!“, and of course, “may the force be with you.“. the list will be voted on from now til the show, and covers a wide spectrum of movies. from the golden age of cinema right up to recent movies like the lord of the rings trilogy, it should be a pretty interesting countdown.

HALO MOVIE MURMURS
just one other movie news for today. just as me and fonz were pontificating (word of the day) about the idea of a halo movie (bungies very protective of their halo franchise), the rumor mills already started rumbling. a new post on aicn yesterday brought up new speculations about a possible halo movie. bungie has apparently always wanted the creative team of the original alien (and nobody else) to work on a potential halo movie. so specifically…only ridley scott and the co-writer ron shussett (whos talked about in the article). shussetts camp has already hinted at their interest. so if scott were somehow convinced to jump onboard, the project just might get a set of wheels. granted its all speculation and wishful thinking at the moment, but a halo movie would def be worth seeing.

new coat…and spongebob!

wooha…i just spent $300+ on a long suit coat ive been hunting for for over a year now. its like a normal suit jacket, but 3/4 length like a pea coat. why isnt this design more prevalent? i had seen a similar design last year in zara, but hesitated to get it. so by the time i decided that yes, i wanted it, it was gone…fuckers. so i didnt hesitate this time when i spotted it at sisley. fashion yo…word. right then, enough about my snotty fashion tastes.

SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS
spongebobs almost here…yay! and as a primer, cnn (yea…cnn) provided a coo list of 10 little-known facts about spongebob squarepants. the article lists a variety of interesting spongebob trivia, including spongebobs original design as a natural sponge (hmm…not as funny), how stephen hillenburg (spongebobs creator) chose tom kenny as the voice of spongebob from one reeeally obscure character he did on rocko’s modern life, and how david hasselhoff got involved with the movie to play david hasselhoff. “im david hasselhoff.” “hooray!

darth heidi

aaaargh…why are my new years plans becoming so complex? damnit, trying to make the best of a shit situation kind of sucks. its gonna be the holidays for chrissakes. happy thoughts, happy thoughts. and yea, i am being pretty vague intentionally. but the parties involved will hopefully sort things out soon enough. the issues just came up yesterday, and im hoping that itll slowly but surely work itself out by the time the holidays roll around and everything will be normal and happy. or something…whatever.

this cheered me up…a funny-ass commercial featuring darth vader and heidi klum. yea, not a typo or anything. here, let me write it again. darth vader and heidi klum. its supposedly for a target promo where you can request celebrities like darth vader, heidi klum, etc to give you a personal wake-up call so you dont miss targets thanksgiving sale. right then…whatever. its just funny to see darth vader tempted by something other than the dark side.
