feelin’ | wee sleepy

so yea, i woke up with this tattoo on my right wrist this morning…go fig. jk…id been planning this for a long time now. all i needed was a push…in this case from my friend joyce. its the three-crane symbol ppl might initially recognize from the movie ghost dog…which in turn got it from the hagakure…which in turn was originally the mon for the urakami clan. the tat’s still pretty sensitive so i haveta watch over it for the next 2 weeks. woo.

today my high school bud scottie came back from yale for a day b4 jetting off to spain tomorrow, so we met up for din with rosen, another hs friend. we got yum tofu from cho dang gol and then sat around and talked about fugly girls from our high school. jk. we talked about all the people who got fat. rosen headed off and me and scottie chilled at his apt as he chatted with his belgian lady-friend. we then grabbed some late-nite munchies from the moonstruck diner. lemon meringue and hot cocoa…yum. which mightve contributed to my current want for sleeeep…..

stereo future

current selection | bjork – army of me (beastie boys remix)

biking plans last nite were scrapped in favor of having din with fonz. we hit go and got outdoor seating…which turned out to be a pretty bad idea. allergy seasons in full force, and i couldnt stop sneezing. fuck. even with claritin im still sniffling. bleh. anyhoo…went to kims video afterwards and i uh, snatched another asian dvd (argh!). this one tho felt necessary, since ive only been able to find it for $50+ online. anyhoo…onwards to a stereo future.

cin3matic contraband – stereo future
id only read the vaguest reviews of stereo future b4, but what i read of it exuded a slick and pop-iconic feel. directed by hiroyuki nakano, this is a sequel of sorts to his first “sf” outing, samurai fiction. chapter “2002” takes place in present day+1 japan and follows the stories of four characters floating their way thru life. keisuke is a wannabe actor who has jus been hand-picked to star in a contrived chambara (samurai swordfighting) movie. his ex-girlfriend eri has been mute since their break-up and is wandering thru life looking past their relationship. eri’s sister koharu is a journalist and tv show host who feels solitary trying to spread her eco-friendly lifestyle. and keisukes ex-con friend kengo is jus looking for his next scam. the movie interweaves the stories together, jumping back and forth in time between the present day and back when the two protaganists, keisuke and eri, were still together (and when eri still talked). in the present, keisuke is forced to endure a horribly cheesy samurai movie with an insane director, an over-the-top lead actor villain, and the super-cute lead actress mika (who was incidentally the one who hand-picked him for the role) eri meanwhile catches the attention of an american environmentalist, who seems equal parts charming, fruity, and tree-hugging. no, literally. he’s seen hugging trees. keisuke cant seem to find the motivation in his acting, while eri’s muteness is a constant reminder of her past. they’re both looking for their stereo future, but they cant seem to shake their lives in mono.

stereo future gently floats lazily thru an ocean of coolness, occasionally allowing the plot to break the surface and guide it along. its an odd sort of progression that by many accounts almost seems unfocused. but its sheer polished imagery and soothing pace relaxes u to the point that you want to float along with it. stereo future doesnt reside in the real world…it exists in a super-modern nihon-tech world watched over by the lords of *wallpaper. every location seems highly specific, highly polished, and utilized in the chic-est way possible. it should also be pointed out that eri, played by akiko monou, is prolly the cutest asian actress ive ever seen. the director would prolly agree, since he liberally uses her striking features as the focal point for whatever scene shes in. see example below. mmm….

girls

current selection | misia – kazenifukarete

kazenifubu…wubu….mouthful eh? odd weekend…per usual. in the past, girls i pursued in my age range always headed towards caustic issues and the such…and girls 5 years my senior couldnt seem to get past ‘friendship’. but younger girls tho…shit, what goes thru their minds?

b4 i get to this weekend, three quick points. first point…in high school, i was asexual. i just didnt think that way. i kno, go ahead…laugh. i shit u not.

second point…last year when i still lived in nj, me and fish were at panera’s doing our usual coffee and chess. this particular one we frequented was usually populated by noisy teenagers…but we didnt mind. as im getting my ass kicked in chess by fish, we notice a group of girls (closer to kids) looking our way. i assume theyre looking fish’s way…since hes quite the handsome chap. we chess on anyhoo to my utter spanking. an hour or so later, they’re leaving and walk past us towards the main entrance (we’re sitting right next to the front window) when theyre outside, one of the girls knocks on the window and starts gesturing and mouthing something while looking at me. im thinking, “you…heart…boobs?” hmm…no, thats not right. after a few minutes, one of her friends comes back in and says “she wants to be you.” i give a dumbfounded look, wondering whether she meant that in an idolistic way, or in a “being john malkovich” way. i smile and say something incoherent. hmm, yea.

third point…sometime after the panera’s incident, me and fish are eating at a nice restaurant when a cute waitress i noticed looking my way, had a waiter friend come over and tell me she thought i was cute. estimated age….under 20? (hear my head swelling yet?) numbers were passed…she never called. *sigh* ok…onto this weekend. its coffee and chess again with fish…this time at starbucks. im really getting royally spanked this time. the usual crowd of noisy teenagers are around. whatever. nothing out of the ordinary. all of a sudden, a girl comes up to me and asks if she can take my picture. per my usual reaction, i go, “um…sure.” im so suave. she snaps the photo, smiles, and leaves. fish is giving me the wry grin and im thinking to myself, “where the hell were you when i was in high school??” ok, illegal thoughts. nevermind…moving on.

enough about girls…
sunday me and fish went biking thru morris twsp in nj. we couldnt find the trails we were originally looking for, but we hit on a park area anyhoo by chance. alot of ppl were out biking, so it was a coo ride thru the woodlands. a few hills, but nothing too strenuous since it was our first biking excursion since last summer. we biked close to 10 miles thru the farmlands and fields. i couldve sworn we were in amish country or something. afterwards, fish dropped me off at the newark path station, and i got to finally bring my bike into the city with me. woo…my baby’s come home.

first entry

this has been a pretty good weekend, i have to say. it was all about getting in touch with people i hadnt seen in a while. one of which i hadnt seen in over 4 years.

so i got to chill with my friend jane saturday. we hadnt seen each other since we graduated college almost 2 years ago. i spent the better part of the day doing girl things with her. hair salon, manicure. i really connected with my feminine side. i really did. really. all capped with a nice round of soju and takoyaki and okonomiyaki for dinner. she’s out in connecticut, where they do fun things like…breathe air, and eat food. (jk!) well, the point was she’s far enough away to make the whole hanging out thing an effort. but then we got reminded how fun it was to hang out with each other, so we’ll hopefully hang out more now. woo.

and the second friend. well. ags. my ags. we hadnt seen each other in over 4 years. but we’ve been doing the email/aim thing since, and we’ve always been tight b/c of that. i mean, its still a pretty impersonal form of communication, but we always sound more eloquent in text anyway. and as long as the text backs up the last impression you had of that person, then it’s easier to pretend that that person is right there with you. so after all these years, she came to nyc (from china) for business, and we got to hang out. albeit an abbreviated “hanging out”, but at least i dont have to say anymore that we last saw each other 4 years ago. my ags is all grown up now! and coo as ever. but she’s going back to china now, and its back to aim and email. so now i have to start saving my pennies for those flight tix.
