[ current selection | si*se – bizcocho amargo ]
[ feelin’ | yawn ]

i just learned the oddest thing. i have a few si*se tracks, and ive always wondered what the bugger “bizcocho amargo” meant. so i popped it into babelfish for shits and giggles…and it came up with “bitter sponge cake“. wtf? is that right? bitter sponge cake? ive been listening to a song called bitter sponge cake? thats awesome. its like a cibo matto moment.

my mind is in a bit of dissonance at the moment. i think its because ive actually been getting good sleep lately…and ironically enough, having a shittier time waking up in the morning. urgh. i spent the better part of last nite watching netflix movies. first up was underworld…which was worlds better than i expected, considering the negative reviews i read. kate beckinsale in tight leather corsets and overcoats more than makes up for any shitty dialogue and emoting that came out of kraven. that was some awful line delivery on his part. some of the plot points were dodgy too…but fun to watch nonetheless. threw in bruce almighty afterwards too, which was suck. jim carrey plays a very good dickhead…and hes a dickhead throughout 90% of the movie. im suppose to feel for this dude? sorry, but by the time the actual “good deeds” start rolling in, i hate his character too much. it was a bit preachy too…but thats just coming from my non-religious, non-praying self. so ill excuse that. the third movie, roger dodger, is laying around somewhere too. ill prolly get to that this weekend…

anyhoo, big ups to alice, who turns…”16″ today. congrats!

hmm…quiet day. so im currently sitting in my old office…which was the new office back then, but is old in the sense that we moved back to the old office, which to us became the new office. right. the heats still dead in our office and wouldnt be fixed til friday, so we took our stuff and headed to our old office where there was extra desk space. were the desks always this uncomfortably laid out? it was about 40 degrees in our old office…and is pushing 80 here. holy fuck.

the stupidity of people will never cease to amaze me. theres a cnn article from friday about a woman from stamford, connecticut who is suing the city after her 2-year old model/actor son crashed into a railing in a playground and needed stitches. she claims that the railing, which was painted green, blended in with the landscaping, and is suing for “medical bills, pain and suffering and a lost wage amount due to his inability to audition or take modeling or commercial jobs while his head heals.” are you fucking kidding me? what a bitch! she might as well go ahead and sue her husband and herself for providing such shoddy dna to her son. this was merely evolution…since those who lack depth perception shouldnt really be fit to pass on their genes. some could say ms. mader is a pioneer of national playground safety, making sure evil railings, gym sets, and various playground appurtenances are not veiled in camouflage amongst the landscaping waiting for an unsuspecting pre-adolescent to smack into. i dont however….what a bizatch!

overheard on the L train

the man…a taller, slightly hipster, and decidedly flaming version of moby sporting a soul patch and wearing what appears to be flannel. the woman…a middle-aged woman with an annoying nasal voice who appears to have hunted down the elusive yeti, engaged in a vicious brawl (most likely starting with a quick jab of the index and middle finger to its eyes), and skinned its hide to fashion a shaggy winter coat out of. her voice is making me hemorrhage.

m > blah blah blah (something about acting)
w > gorgeous! thats amazing!
m > blah blah blah (something about a friend of theirs)
w > thats absolutely amazing! thats great!
m > blah blah blah (something about winter vacation)
w > thats gorgeous! really great! thats amazing that youre not going to the north pole or anything (??)
m > blah blah blah (something about brazil and são paulo)
w > gorgeous! thats so awesome!
m > blah blah blah (something about the flight)
w > gorgeous! <slight pause>…..thats absolutely amazing…

the day of the return of the king premiere and anything i was going to mention of it (as if i hadnt been already all this week and last…and the one before that) is being pushed aside in favor of this bit. a co-worker of mine…tien (last name withheld for the sake of privacy) of tienmao.com was interviewed last nite by fox 5 news. he posted an entry on his blog a while back about the new crossing signs around new york…and how people were taping over certain parts of the sign to make the stop hand into a flipped bird. the entry made its way over to both gawker and new yorkish, which then found its way to someones desk at fox 5 who, being a super-slow day, decided to do a story on it and call up tien and ask to interview him. now im not saying tiens not a photogenic person…the camera does evil evil things to ones face. conversely too…it can also do good things to ugly people. anyhoo, tien is in the former category…and as such, the photo he has of the interview spot isnt the greatest. his heads not really that round. and he isnt really a 300 pound fat asian with a propensity to stay away from barbers and have semi-irregular shepherd moons orbiting his massively dense and buttock-like face. its all the camera. photoshop couldnt even help.

random wednesdays

feelin’ | caffeine-ated

usually at about this time during any given week, my mind putters out and i generally have nothing to talk about. this has been compounded lately by the blisteringly frigid wind that drops the temperature from “ouch, fuck” to “holy fucking arse!“…and in turn numbs 42% of the higher brain functions. case in point today. my company wanted to do another coo little holiday card to send to our clients and associates, but we kind of decided upon this a little later than usual…so we’re a bit rushed in its production. tien drove me out to one of our job sites in manhattan today with our mini-christmas tree in tow. when i made last years card, i had in my mind something along the lines of the traveling gnome in amelie. if i could, id just have it globe trot with a stewardess named philomène…standing in front of big ben, la sagrada familia, or some power rangers in tokyo. but its more desirable to have it you know…actually next to one of our projects. last year it visited the dag hammarskjold plaza near the united nations, and this year our tree paid a visit to the greenwich street project. except the sun angle wasnt at what id hoped itd be, and there werent really any easy angles to shoot from, and we were 7 stories up the building…outside where the ice wind was burning my face. super fucking awesome. and i couldnt really see the shots either that i was taking since the angles were low against the ground. anyhoo…hope the card turns out better than the picture i currently have of it in my mind. hmm, wait…when did the christmas tree sprout breasts?

has anybody seen these blogs in their usage statistics? ive found on three separate occasions weird blogs logged in my referrals. they look like normal blogs, but are actually devoid of content. actually, there are random links to news articles on the web…all posted “today.” but they arent actually blog entries…they actually just cull bits from the linked articles. this, and the fact that some have a pre-determined number of comments (all entries have 4 comments, for instance), and that none of the ancillary links work…such as the comments, permalinks, or archives. anyhoo…if anyone knows what these blogs are, let me know.

update
thanks to idly.org for pointing out the code that was hidden at the bottom of all the pages…a small link to a porn site. so these fake blogs are meant to increase the google rank of porn sites (i wondered whether it had something to do with google.) anyhoo…if anyone noticed this too, check out the idly.org comment thread.
