no halo fo’ you!

a bunch of us trekked thru the rain last nite to central park to catch cai guo-qiang’s light cycle fireworks display. we staked out our claim along the northeastern edge of the reservoir…more or less right next to the launchers. this would of course be a pretty bad idea later on. the fireworks started around 7:45pm and we’re pretty much getting our ears permanently damaged…woo! but all we could see were normal fireworks shooting up and exploding…we were waiting for the “finale” of a large halo of explosions over the reservoir. after 4 or 5 minutes of pretty (but standard) fireworks and buzzing noises in our ears, the launchers stopped and we’re going…eh? we hadnt seen a halo yet, and we were wondering what the dilly was yo. apparently no one around us had seen a halo either…everybody jus kinda lingered, waiting for the show to “continue.” we thought that mebbe they were delaying it til the rain died down…or that what we saw was the halo…except the rain had fucked up the guidance and they exploded in all the wrong places. then we jus gave up and went to go grab food from go.

this morning i read an article about how the explosions scared the shit out of some paranoid new yorkers who apparently dont read the arts section of the newspaper. one particular paragraph however stated:

I think the ring over the reservoir was truly phenomenal,” he said. “And the sound was really amazing, with the cadence of thunder. It reverberated through the park because of the chasm of buildings on either side.

ring? there was a ring? bollocks.

addendum>2
apparently the fireworks we saw were part of the halo…and that they only had about half the halo up when the fireworks stopped. ok…in that case, it sucked! i was under the impression that the entire halo would be shot skyward in one arc, and that the ring would linger for a bit, then fade down from the sky. instead, we get random fire bursts and ringing ears. woot.

im pooped im pooped. sooo tired. and internet explorer decided to shut itself off while i was typing out this entry. argh. ah well. i was accompanying jane to a spa trade show early today, so she decided to crash at my apt saturday nite. i met up with jane and her friend eli at jeollado for excess amounts of sushi. oochies. we headed back to my apartment after din, where jane handed me a fondue kit for my housewarming present. rock! she then whips out white wine, a loaf of bread, and gruyere and emmenthal cheese to test out the fondue kit. we fired it up and tossed in the cheese. after deciding that mebbe the cheese would melt faster if they were actually cut into…u kno…cubes, we sliced them up and then tossed them back in. after a few minutes we decided that the sub-par melting needed a bit of a kick in the ass, so we tossed it in the microwave for 10 secs to get it going. i then popped in my sassy girl and we drank wine and munched on pane con formaggi as gyun-woo got the shit kicked out of him by the girl. (have i seen this movie too many times?)

we crawled out of bed ridiculously early (for a sunday)…and then promptly crawled back in to get a few more minutes of sleep. half an hour later we finally get our asses out of bed. we head up to port authority (since the spa trade show was being held at the meadowlands exposition center) and then bused it over. the trade show wasnt too crowded, but it was pretty informative. we attended a few seminars and went around to the different booths. i even got collagen from clayton shagal to smooth my skin. woo! we left around 6ish and made our way back to manhattan. we decided to try and catch a movie…so we checked out the e-walk and the theaters across from to see if lost in translation was showing there. it wasnt…and apparently only 4 theaters are showing it in the area. the theater across from e-walk was however still showing bend it like beckham, so we’re like, rock! a few weeks b4 it comes out on dvd, and i finally get to see bend it. and like pirates, the movie had something for everyone. keira (yum) for me…and jonathan (i suppose he’d be yum if u were a female…or gay) rhys-meyers for jane. eek…eyes fluttering. crap. bedtime. anyhoo…keira=yum.

mitsuwa-ing

fish is back on his normal work schedule…so no more saturday biking. phoo. we decided to do a friday mitsuwa run instead since we hadnt been there in a while. we got there a bit late…7:15ish (it closes at 8), so we hit up the supermarket b4 anything else. after grabbing various japanese produce and wandering thru the shops, we tried out the restaurant behind mitsuwa…forgot its name. the big temple-like place with spank views of the waterside. tho the various sashimi combinations were $20 and up, everything else was relatively normal priced. yay! we got ika kara-age and a spicy salmon roll for appetizers, and i got tempura soba while fish got sake ochazuke. yum yum.

after din, we looked for a place to coffee and chess, and we ended up at the new panera’s in hoboken. woo! ok, first ill refer u to this earlier post about girls, coffee, and playing chess. so i was having a good game…predicted alot of fish’s strategies and systematically took a 2 pawn lead. then out of nowhere, 2 girls (estimated age…10?) came up, look at me a bit strangely, and asked whether the nice soapstone chess board was mine. i gave them a dumbfounded look (my eyes were saying “where is this going?“) and then pointed a finger towards fish. they gave an “oh” and then walked away. what was that?? so todays incident wasnt as sketch as prior ones, but it still made me go “whazza?” anyhoo, afterwards my focus went poo, i couldnt think straight, and basically started giving my pieces away. fish wiped the floor with my ass the rest of the game…his queen, bishop, and rook took turns spanking my king.

wow…its so much fun having everything due in the same week. yay! jus got in from taking pics of goldman sachs in jersey city. b/c the pm that was taking me around was at a job site at coney island…i took the w all the way to coney island to meet him. id actually never been down there b4…so the first thing i did when i got out of the subway was to trot over to the original nathan’s and order myself a chili dog…at 9:15 in the morning. woo. anyhoo, we headed over to jersey city and i got shots off b4 being booted by a contractor for not wearing a hard hat or boots. he’s telling me this as a dude with queer pointy-toed dress shoes and no hard hat was walking around admiring the views. bollocks to that.

thanx to anna for some new music selections…woo! so we return now to our regularly scheduled program. come to think of it…do i rely on this journal too much? b/c shit if i could recollect the exact details of what i did this weekend. hmm. i dont think i did anything friday…no, im pretty sure i did nothing. saturdays biking excursion with fish was cancelled again b/c of a tight schedule…so i worked on rosens illustrations instead. saturday nite was aviate…a party series carried over from our cornell days down to nyc when the party organizers graduated. we headed down to the knitting factory in waves, pretty much expecting it to be some kind of faux class reunion…which it was. it actually felt like i was sitting in the basement of republica (or the dragon) again…weird. all in all fun tho. afterwards me, anna, and betty dropped by crif dogs and i picked up some chili cheese fries. mmm…unhealthy.

betty crashed at my apt, so sunday morn we headed out to do some window shopping b4 she took off. we dropped by crif dogs (again), and the dude behind the counter goes, “did u jus go home to sleep and come right back?” i go, “dude, i need my chili-luvin’…” ha. we headed down to soho, where i got myself a new messenger bag ($15…woo!) and some cables so i could rewire my speakers in my room. after betty headed back to brooklyn, me and anna went back to my apartment. i rewired my surround sound speakers so they could receive input from both my dvd player and my computer. i had to reposition all the wires and speakers to shift the center from my computer to my tv. then we popped in the lord of the rings and all was good.

hmm…the dudes at the coffee shop seem to be putting more and more cream cheese on my bagel every morning. big congrats to anna for finding a new job! she’ll be an exhibit designer for spankmeister badhickey…shminickey? whatever they’re called…getting ur first job out of college is def a big thing. shes been crashing at my apt for the last week while she’s job hunting, so itll be nice to get her freeloading ass outta here. (jk!) we celebrated at shabu tatsu with alice and sally….woo! we didnt go nuts this time with a shabu shabu plate for each person…3 for 4 seems a better number. i also got a side of kimchi gyoza…yum. apparently ppl think i have some kind of gyoza addiction. well…alice has her chinese cabbage, i have my dumplings…

after me and anna strolled back to my apt to chill, bo-ra and jon show up at my apt….woo! we originally had the idea to go up onto the roof of my building and drink, but we had no alcohol (too lazy to pick some up). so we jus chilled in my apt, being loud and obnoxious (sorry fonz!), and watching bo-ra hug my monty python vicious rabbit with sharp, pointy teeth to death.

oh yea…saw this passing by forbidden planet yesterday. its their new advertising strategy…stick a kid in the window display and jus let him play all day. damnit, that rocks! anyhoo…din today with the min-meister at zen. yum…veggies…and stuff…

ahh…3 day weekend. lets see what we have on schedule…

nothing…that rocks. my parents are swingin’ it in vegas, so theres no point in going home to nj. might go tearing thru trails with fish on monday, but thats tentative. in the meantime nothing is jus fine with me. i already spent a buttload last nite bowling at bowlmor lanes, so mebbe nothing is a good thing for my bank account.
