just about every kid grew up playing with legos, right? i used to be a moderate lego junkie…i used to keep all my lego pieces in 2 lunch boxes…one with gobots on the front and another of the long forgotten bravestarr (thirty-thirty rocked!). but they were hardly ever filled b/c id always have at least one big set/diorama made using about 90% of my legos at any one time. shit, if only id stuck with my lego hobby…legoland california is currently on the hunt for their newest lego master builder. according to an article in wired, theyre scouring art colleges for potential candidates who have to not only be lego junkies, but also have 3d modeling experience. too coo…playing with legos all day and making large lego dioramas for a living. i was thinking they should look into some of the crazy mofos over in the lugnet mecha section since i think legoland needs an infusion of some large-scale lego mechs to rock the place. they could build a lego ultraman, a lego godzilla, and mebbe a lego mazinger and have them go at it while stomping thru lego landscapes. specium beam….attack!

the inner geek speaks…it wants a light saber for christmas. while i do think the star wars franchise has…waned a bit since jar jar came into the picture and anakin turned out to be a pissy little fuck, nothing could dilute the coo-ness that is a lightsaber. which is why everyone and their sister should go out and get a damn lightsaber. they even have the skywalker version too! and if you have money pouring out your ass (wait…thats disgusting)…then you can upgrade and get exact replicas of everybody’s light sabers (sans the fx or beam). that includes darth mauls lil bad boy…

here’s something i barely talk about anymore…video games! i used to be an addict back in the days…in the worst sense. 3 subscriptions to gaming mags…spending twenties at the arcade…more on my genesis and dreamcast (god rest their souls…) nowadays i dont play much except the occasional game with fonz and a game once and a while on my pc. i still keep track of the industry…just not as much as i used to. anyhoo…one game i have been keeping an eye on is starcraft: ghost. starcraft is and always will be one of the greatest games ever made (up there with fwiffo)…and its a pretty coo idea to expand on it by having you run around as one of the ghosts rather than the omnipotent general sending troops to their death or making marines stimpack junkies (ah…thats the stuff!). so for you starcraft fans out there (that probably includes 90% of south korea), they posted 2 mini-movies of the ghost’s call-downs, including the comsat scan and a vicious mjolnir strike. woo…watch the dragoon go splooch.

we’re taking today to pay homage to one of the great 80’s icons, the transformers. we’re talking generation one here…not the new shit with monkeys turning into robots or robots who stick smaller robots up their ass so guns pop out of their elbows. everyone who was anyone had transformers. and the culmination of this 80’s culture was the cinematic apogee…transformers: the movie. this was before the popularization of anime in the states, so people were probably thinking…dude, kids stuff. theyre of course wrong. the movie starts with dozens of robots getting their asses capped left and right, main characters getting their heads and stomachs blown off, and theres the infamous moment when spike (realizing he’s about to get eaten by a planet-sized robot) goes, “oh shit!” gosh…memories.

the movie (surprisingly) had a pretty spankin’ cast of actors, which included judd nelson, leonard nimoy, robert stack, john (micro-machines dude) moschitta jr, scatman, casey kasem, and eric idle…not to mention the venerable orson welles as the voice of the all almighty nut-kicker unicron. orson welles was unicron! the mind boggles. so after unicron went around stomping everybody and eating their planets, everyone wanted a unicron toy. but for years the prospects of a unicron toy didnt look so hot…til now. introducing…the unicron toy! toy…toy…toy…echo… the size of a small toddler and able to kung-fu grip a shitty little pikachu, this thing rocks…even if it is for the aforementioned new series where they use little mini-robots like hallucinogenic shrooms. while not as awe-inspiring as the original prototype i scoped years ago, its still pretty sweet. now…to decide whether i should get it. get out of debt….buy unicron…get out of debt…buy unicron. damnit.

what is it with me and toys? i left work early to trot up to the marriott marquis in times square to take photos of one of our completed projects. afterwards, i doted around virgin mega to waste time and fig out if i was actually gonna plan something for tonite. after a while of doing nothing, it was pretty evident. so i headed back down to union sq and stopped by forbidden planet first…which is always a bad idea. i spotted some new gundam seed msia’s in the back calling my name. apparently my name is “buy me”. i picked myself up an aile strike…and since fish’s bday was coming up (june…close enuf)…i got him the sword strike too. these bad boys rock…so coo. i put mine together already…and im giving fish his tomorrow. i think i might need to take a trip back to the store….woo…..
