terminator salvation?

ok, ive been watching the stories of the new mcg-led terminator movie with a bit of reservation. lets face it, mcg hasnt really made anything to elicit excitement, and…he goes by the name “mcg”. yea. but then i saw christian bale attached and i was like…merr? and now this trailer…hmm, its looking pretty boss. t3 sucked massive donkey…so should i give terminator salvation a chance? its all so confusing!

anime

ooh anime post, redux

my constant anime ingestion continues…so i thought i’d do a follow-up post about whats been piquing my interest. im still sifting thru my collection too. my supply is far past my ability to consume…yar! must…watch…faster.

toradora! | ya…still going. up to episode 21 and its still a good series.

sekirei | if you like boobs the size of small children, this is your anime. mildly brainless, but the fight scenes are well animated. otherwise nothing exemplary.

fate/stay night | i’d seen alot of figures for fate/stay all over akihabara, so i thought hmm…a series with this many devoted figures (that weren’t all in skanky outfits…*cough* witchblade) couldnt be that bad. and yea…whats the opposite of suck? oh right…awesome. this series is awesome. really well written and animated.

tetsuwan birdy | voted anime with the best gravity-defying outfits…her clothes are glued to her! but besides that tho, its still a pretty good anime. story could be a bit under-explained at times, but i suppose thats ok since its just the first season (season 2 is currently ongoing). its also by the creator of patlabor, so it couldnt be that bad. and regardless of the near-limitless opportunities provided by the premise (boy killed, has spirit implanted in hot female aliens body) and the aforementioned glued-on outfits, its not even the least bit ecchi. like, not even a little…i was surprised (and ok, just a little disappointed). oh, and its by a-1, who also did kannagi mentioned in the last anime post. yea, theyre awesome.

code geass | holy shit. just like…watch it. both seasons too. brilliant story. im man enough to admit i cried a little. even the stupid pizza hut product placements couldnt blemish this series the slightest.

xam’d lost memories | still watching this series, but its pretty good. its by bones (eureka, full metal alchemist), which means at the very least the animations top-notch. its definitely got a miyazaki-vibe to it too…with the production design, characters, etc (one of the female protagonists has more than a passing resemblance to nausicaa).

edit | just finished it. what the fuck just happened?

koihime musou | looked like brainless fun with girls fighting each other in ancient china. ill get around to finishing it sometime…

catching up

ah, februarys nearly done. that was fast. theres actually alot i meant to post, but i seemed to always find a distraction (a backlog of approximately 10 anime series will do that…heehee). so heres the quick recap vaguely outlining things ive done.

MAY DAY
to start off with, my niece may turned one back in the first week of february. yay may! her birthday will most likely coincide with the super bowl every year from now on…which will be interesting.

IM STILL EATING
various foodie outings included a welcome-back for steph at en (but now shes back in amsterdam…pooters), bcd tofu house with ky, fried chicken at redhead (yurmy yurm!) with ren, brunch with hosan at the new company in west village, rodizio in newark with fishy…who i hadnt seen in forever and whos not fond of being mentioned in these posts (ha!), and massive japanese bbq at gyu-kaku with milton (who was visiting from seattle) and a sizeable hk contingent.

REMAINDERS
last night was also the opening of the new droog showroom in soho, and i got to go in sub-studios place hehe. i liked their work while i was in amsterdam, so im hoping they bring their same design sense to their showroom in nyc. i dont want it to turn into another nauseatingly pretentious moss gallery.

there are probably numerous things that fell thru the cracks, but meh. i also have a number of pics to post too…maybe those will jog my memory a bit. ill get to the pics this weekend…i swear! no really. ill also be doing another anime round-up soon enough, because i burn thru animes like toilet paper now. word!

gaming + toys

classic gaming

one of my new favorite sites to waste time at…shmups! its a site for classic shoot’em-ups (shmups, duh), and i can’t help but get nostalgic going thru some of the classics. and when i say classics, i mean classics of my era. i’m not talking about dinky atari or collecovision. we’re in the sega genesis, snes, and dreamcast era. definitely a formative era of gaming. i was a big fan of the side-scrollers back when i had a sega genesis (1st gen too). thunderforce iii, gaiares, hellfire, and one of my all-time favorites to this day, musha, one of the best shooters…evar. i fucking hate that i sold my entire genesis collection. wtf was i thinking?!?! what makes it even more painful was that i used to enjoy taking out the box art and replacing it with my own hand-drawn versions…golden axe, altered beast, revenge of shinobi, streets of rage. god i wish i still had those. now all those memories are relegated to uploaded videos on youtube.

i’ll admit, i shed a tear watching the intro and ending. *sniff*
