rabbit in the moon

chinese moon festival 2003
cripes…its already the moon festival?! the moon festival is supposed to be the full moon closest to the fall equinox…which is today. as such the moon festival’s relatively early this year. with every tradition, theres the legend behind the tradition…so here’s the account of the moon festival legend. so theres this fairy named chang-er, this wood cutter named wu-kang, and this rabbit…….geez, wait. its too lengthy and makes no sense. lets just stick to the whole full moon and fall equinox thingy. eat mooncake and luv it.

ive had weird dreams (that i could remember) the last 2 days in a row. ive already forgotten most of tueday’s, but i do remember that it was another instance where i could remember things from my dream consciousness…a forbidden planet-type place that id been to b4 in another dream, only this time i noted that they had redone their interior. ok then. and last nite i dreamt that i went to my high school reunion. everybody had tattoos, and i still have crappy memory b/c thats all i could remember of it. *shrug*

there arent many domestic movies im anticipating at the moment. aside from the obvious ones like matrix revolutions and return of the king, the only other 2 (off the top of my head) are lost in translation (out this week) and kill bill vols 1+2 (oct + feb). the newest trailer for kill bill vol 1 is out…so go get ur crazy 88. tarantino goodness + swordfighting = bad ass! hmm…actually that equation holds true for lucy liu + uma thurman…chiaki kuriyama + sonny chiba too. chiaki kuriyama is a badass.

wow…its so much fun having everything due in the same week. yay! jus got in from taking pics of goldman sachs in jersey city. b/c the pm that was taking me around was at a job site at coney island…i took the w all the way to coney island to meet him. id actually never been down there b4…so the first thing i did when i got out of the subway was to trot over to the original nathan’s and order myself a chili dog…at 9:15 in the morning. woo. anyhoo, we headed over to jersey city and i got shots off b4 being booted by a contractor for not wearing a hard hat or boots. he’s telling me this as a dude with queer pointy-toed dress shoes and no hard hat was walking around admiring the views. bollocks to that.

thanx to anna for some new music selections…woo! so we return now to our regularly scheduled program. come to think of it…do i rely on this journal too much? b/c shit if i could recollect the exact details of what i did this weekend. hmm. i dont think i did anything friday…no, im pretty sure i did nothing. saturdays biking excursion with fish was cancelled again b/c of a tight schedule…so i worked on rosens illustrations instead. saturday nite was aviate…a party series carried over from our cornell days down to nyc when the party organizers graduated. we headed down to the knitting factory in waves, pretty much expecting it to be some kind of faux class reunion…which it was. it actually felt like i was sitting in the basement of republica (or the dragon) again…weird. all in all fun tho. afterwards me, anna, and betty dropped by crif dogs and i picked up some chili cheese fries. mmm…unhealthy.

betty crashed at my apt, so sunday morn we headed out to do some window shopping b4 she took off. we dropped by crif dogs (again), and the dude behind the counter goes, “did u jus go home to sleep and come right back?” i go, “dude, i need my chili-luvin’…” ha. we headed down to soho, where i got myself a new messenger bag ($15…woo!) and some cables so i could rewire my speakers in my room. after betty headed back to brooklyn, me and anna went back to my apartment. i rewired my surround sound speakers so they could receive input from both my dvd player and my computer. i had to reposition all the wires and speakers to shift the center from my computer to my tv. then we popped in the lord of the rings and all was good.

after looking thru the archives that i thought i had downloaded b4 i killed my old server, i realized that smart ftp isnt so smart, and that it had only downloaded approximately up to march. poo. so i had a few options. i rebuilt the few entries i had of september from the last “snapshot” of the index.html…then i went back to my old xanga account to get my old old archives from january to the beginning of july. and the rest was filled in by cached snapshots from google (woo google!). whew. i didnt port over 100%…more like 90%. left out alot of crap. anyhoo…im tired. any bugs…send ’em my way.

yea…apparently if one wanted to save their old archives before doing something drastic like, oh…say switching web hosts, they should export their archives so they can import them later. i read this interesting bit of info after i switched hosts, killed the old account, and uploaded everything as-is (was) onto the new server. fyi…that doesnt work. anyhoo…im currently looking for ways to make the old archives work…otherwise ill have to reproduce every entry by hand. ouch.

hmm…the dudes at the coffee shop seem to be putting more and more cream cheese on my bagel every morning. big congrats to anna for finding a new job! she’ll be an exhibit designer for spankmeister badhickey…shminickey? whatever they’re called…getting ur first job out of college is def a big thing. shes been crashing at my apt for the last week while she’s job hunting, so itll be nice to get her freeloading ass outta here. (jk!) we celebrated at shabu tatsu with alice and sally….woo! we didnt go nuts this time with a shabu shabu plate for each person…3 for 4 seems a better number. i also got a side of kimchi gyoza…yum. apparently ppl think i have some kind of gyoza addiction. well…alice has her chinese cabbage, i have my dumplings…

after me and anna strolled back to my apt to chill, bo-ra and jon show up at my apt….woo! we originally had the idea to go up onto the roof of my building and drink, but we had no alcohol (too lazy to pick some up). so we jus chilled in my apt, being loud and obnoxious (sorry fonz!), and watching bo-ra hug my monty python vicious rabbit with sharp, pointy teeth to death.

oh yea…saw this passing by forbidden planet yesterday. its their new advertising strategy…stick a kid in the window display and jus let him play all day. damnit, that rocks! anyhoo…din today with the min-meister at zen. yum…veggies…and stuff…

transformers vs. orson welles

current selection | stan bush – the touch

we’re taking today to pay homage to one of the great 80’s icons, the transformers. we’re talking generation one here…not the new shit with monkeys turning into robots or robots who stick smaller robots up their ass so guns pop out of their elbows. everyone who was anyone had transformers. and the culmination of this 80’s culture was the cinematic apogee…transformers: the movie. this was before the popularization of anime in the states, so people were probably thinking…dude, kids stuff. theyre of course wrong. the movie starts with dozens of robots getting their asses capped left and right, main characters getting their heads and stomachs blown off, and theres the infamous moment when spike (realizing he’s about to get eaten by a planet-sized robot) goes, “oh shit!” gosh…memories.

the movie (surprisingly) had a pretty spankin’ cast of actors, which included judd nelson, leonard nimoy, robert stack, john (micro-machines dude) moschitta jr, scatman, casey kasem, and eric idle…not to mention the venerable orson welles as the voice of the all almighty nut-kicker unicron. orson welles was unicron! the mind boggles. so after unicron went around stomping everybody and eating their planets, everyone wanted a unicron toy. but for years the prospects of a unicron toy didnt look so hot…til now. introducing…the unicron toy! toy…toy…toy…echo… the size of a small toddler and able to kung-fu grip a shitty little pikachu, this thing rocks…even if it is for the aforementioned new series where they use little mini-robots like hallucinogenic shrooms. while not as awe-inspiring as the original prototype i scoped years ago, its still pretty sweet. now…to decide whether i should get it. get out of debt….buy unicron…get out of debt…buy unicron. damnit.

i think my minds on vacation. everything seems…slow. labor day weekend was relatively relaxing, but boring. friday was bowling at bowlmor lanes, then drinky drinks at scratcher. saturday and sunday consisted of alot of nothing, followed by some rounds of looking outside. i then took a trip outside on sunday to pick some stuff up from paragon. then i realized how i had jus written an entry on boring ppl writing boring blogs, and i decided to finalize my theory of everything, attend a showing of lost in translation at the venice film festival, and oh yea…grabbed 2 bottles of calpico from sunrise. jk abt everything except the calpico. ah well. the article on the theories of existence is an interesting read anyhoo…and im waiting for lost in translation to come out sept 19th. its been getting good buzz at the venice film festival…and i jus like seeing tokyo on the big screen. as for the calpico…yea, its all good.
