ah\u2026still no heat in the office. yay fun. i had an odd dream last nite that i was awake, then dozed off, then woke again grumbling about how i was tired and i dozed off. what the hell was that? so i was actually laying in bed for a while after i woke up this morning trying to get my bearings\u2026looking around to make sure there werent babies reciting \u201cjohn malkovich.<\/i>\u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n

woo\u2026todays talk-about-lotr day<\/b>. a week +1 day til the theatrical premiere of the return of the king<\/i>\u2026and im getting pretty fucking impatient after reading review<\/a> after review<\/a> from people who got sneak peeks. grr. two coo things for today. one is an extensive ign interview<\/a> with peter jackson. he goes into depth about the trilogy and elaborates on his interpretation of the original novels\u2026stating that the theatrical movies were the definitive movies, not the extended versions. the extendeds were primarily for fans specifically, and i can see where he\u2019s coming from. as a movie, the pacing of the extendeds tends to be less uniform than the theatricals b\/c the extra material were put back into the movie to elaborate details, not to necessarily progress the movies narrative. as someone who likes to know everything and appreciates details, id take the extended over the theatricals anyday\u2026tho the theatrical versions as a movie are probably more balanced. also of note\u2026after shooting the trilogy, most of the cast went away with an heirloom. elijah (probably) got to keep the one ring, the male cast got to keep their swords\u2026.pj however, got the carrot he was chewing on in his cameo in the first movie. framed no less. a carrot\u2026shit. if i were pj, i wouldve smote their ruin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

the second is a new video interview with sean astin<\/a> about samwise gamgee\u2019s role in the last movie. he talks about the role of servant to master samwise plays to frodo. well\u2026not exactly servant, but he is<\/i> frodo\u2019s gardener. not mentioned in the video but relevant\u2026its been stated that tolkien based their relationship on his experiences in the british royal army. royal officers tended to have servants called batmen who looked after them, akin to medieval squires and their knights. they were absolutely loyal to their masters, and this is the type of dynamic he played between frodo and sam, not the homoerotic shit certain people<\/a> want to read from it. even if you havent read the books, you probably get the idea that samwise will be kicking much ass in the final movie. go mikey!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
