{"id":185,"date":"2003-09-16T09:18:38","date_gmt":"2003-09-16T09:18:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.m3ntalcontraband.com\/?p=185"},"modified":"2020-11-11T14:06:50","modified_gmt":"2020-11-11T19:06:50","slug":"no_halo_fo_you","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/m3ntal.halleytsai.com\/?p=185","title":{"rendered":"no halo fo&#8217; you!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text-paragraph\"><b>current selection<\/b> | yoko kanno \u2013 <i>blue<\/i><br><b>feelin\u2019<\/b> | <i>miffed<\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"text-paragraph\">a bunch of us trekked thru the rain last nite to central park to catch cai guo-qiang\u2019s <b>light cycle<\/b> fireworks display. we staked out our claim along the northeastern edge of the reservoir\u2026more or less right next to the launchers. this would of course be a pretty bad idea later on. the fireworks started around 7:45pm and we\u2019re pretty much getting our ears permanently damaged\u2026woo! but all we could see were normal fireworks shooting up and exploding\u2026we were waiting for the \u201c<i>finale<\/i>\u201d of a large halo of explosions over the reservoir. after 4 or 5 minutes of pretty (but standard) fireworks and buzzing noises in our ears, the launchers stopped and we\u2019re going\u2026<i>eh<\/i>? we hadnt seen a halo yet, and we were wondering what the dilly was yo. apparently no one around us had seen a halo either\u2026everybody jus kinda lingered, waiting for the show to \u201ccontinue.\u201d we thought that mebbe they were delaying it til the rain died down\u2026or that what we saw <i>was <\/i>the halo\u2026except the rain had fucked up the guidance and they exploded in all the wrong places. then we jus gave up and went to go grab food from <i>go<\/i>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"text-paragraph\">this morning i read an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2003\/09\/16\/nyregion\/16FIRE.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">article<\/a> about how the explosions scared the shit out of some paranoid new yorkers who apparently dont read the arts section of the newspaper. one particular paragraph however stated:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"text-paragraph\">\u201c<i>I think the ring over the reservoir was truly phenomenal,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd the sound was really amazing, with the cadence of thunder.
