change\u2026that much is stating the obvious.\u00a0 but aside from seeing old photos or hearing about the city of the past, it\u2019s not always as easy to relate to or personally see until you get to a point in your life where you can slow down, look around, and go \u201c<i>what the\u2026where the fuck am i?<\/i>\u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"text-paragraph\">case in point\u2026we\u2019re moving into a new office sometime in september.\u00a0 our space is still being renovated, so every so often we get an email showing the progress, with subject lines reading \u201c<i>new photos of the tunnel<\/i>\u201d and \u201c<i>tearing down walls at the tunnel<\/i>\u201c.\u00a0 and i kept going \u201c<i>the tunnel, the tunnel\u2026what the fuck is the tunnel<\/i>?\u201d\u00a0 whereby the reply was \u201c<i>that\u2019s the name of the building<\/i>\u201c.\u00a0 a light bulb goes off.\u00a0 i put two and two together.\u00a0 i knew we were moving to the far west side of chelsea, but it took me an embarassingly long period of time to realize that the building we were moving to was in fact the old site of the club \u201c<i>the tunnel<\/i>\u201c.\u00a0 fuck\u2026am i now old enough to be working in an office housed in a space where i used to club when i was in high school and college?\u00a0 admittedly i wasn\u2019t a massive clubber\u2026more of a wannabe raver that clubbed occasionally when i wasn\u2019t raving.\u00a0 but i\u2019d been to numerous new york staples in my youth (tho the majority one or two times at most).\u00a0 and even then, i only have slight recollections where most of them were even located.\u00a0 most are gone now\u2026nyc clubbings mildly comatose these days.\u00a0 not that i would even know if it wasn\u2019t.\u00a0 so it got me wondering what happened to the other places i used to go to when i was younger\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"text-paragraph\"><b>the tunnel<\/b> | welp, now i know what happened to<i> the tunnel<\/i>\u2026it turned into my new office!\u00a0 i don\u2019t have many memories of this place.\u00a0 in fact, i don\u2019t have many memories of most of the clubs i went to, save a few.\u00a0 the thing was, back then, i didn\u2019t really pay much attention to the area.\u00a0 i just remember dark side streets, lights all around the entrance, and late night food vendors lining the sidewalks.\u00a0 it\u2019s probably easy for me to say that the area probably didn\u2019t look anything like it does today\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" see\u2026this one i already knew about.\u00a0 the palladium was (one of?) the largest clubs back in the day.\u00a0 it\u2019s now the nyu dorm called <i>the palladium<\/i> on union square south (hint\u2026<i>trader joe\u2019s<\/i> resides in the ground floor).\u00a0 i recall union square being pretty shitty back then.\u00a0 it\u2019s cleaned up nicely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" it\u2019s a mall now.\u00a0 if you told me ten years ago one of the best known clubs in nyc was going to be turned into a shopping mall inside a church, i\u2019d laugh hysterically, then maybe go \u201c<i>for serious?\u00a0 are you a time traveler?<\/i>\u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" higher than average amount of memories of <i>twilo<\/i>\u2026but still not much.\u00a0 i remember the bouncy ball chairs upstairs tho.\u00a0 i was trashed this one time and bouncing around on them for an indeterminate amount of time.\u00a0 i stopped going long before it became <i>spirit<\/i>, tho i don\u2019t know if its still around.\u00a0 it still says <i>spirit<\/i> on the awning on google street views\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" two i lump together because i have the most memories from both these places.\u00a0 partially because we went so many times, and partially because i was sober every time.\u00a0 in high school, i ran with the \u2018white hat\u2019 crew\u2026the majority of which liked to see jam bands and whatnot.\u00a0 a small fraction of us frequented clubs however.\u00a0 so when we headed out, these two places filled our needs quite well.\u00a0 <i>wetlands<\/i> was a jam band venue for the likes of <i>dave matthews, from good homes, moe<\/i>, etc\u2026while <i>vinyl<\/i> featured the likes of fran\u00e7ois kevorkian and was literally down the block.\u00a0 so we\u2019d head in on a weekend, split up between the two venues, then meet up again at three in the morning.\u00a0 both are long gone now, replaced by fancy pants luxury apartments.\u00a0 i googled the addresses yesterday and barely even recognized the area\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\"
